2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz can poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours a very dark red color. It’s not very opaque considering it’s a nearly 8% stout. It also seems to feature somewhat strong carbonation if I look closely in the glass. The head is a weak looking one finger mocha color with low retention.
S: Seems to be a sweet stout, with primarily chocolate, hazelnut, and faint vanilla. The oysters come through quite well, as a sort of salty, mineraly aroma. Could be a bit less metallic, but that’s just nitpicking.
T: Surprisingly, the flavor is sitting on the opposite end of the stout spectrum of the aroma, with tons of roasted malts, lactose cream, and coffee. It comes across as smoky at times, too. After the initial finish, the mineral profile comes through. The flavor has a bit too much metallic presence to be great, especially on the aftertaste. Really, it just doesn’t work for me.
M: Tingly and astringent. It seems dry at first, but after a while, the charred, metallic aftertastes seemingly introduces a syrupy quality to the texture that I’m not a fan of.
O: I like oysters. I love stouts. Sadly, I don’t love this; even ’like’ is too strong of a word here. Just too disjointed for my tastes.
Canned. Pours deep black, with a pretty tan/beige head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, briney, roasted malt. Nice. Flavor is sweet chocolate, a bit thin, and kinda effervescent but it has that briney "oyster" taste, roasted malt, decent little bit of coffee presence. Quite thin for an almost 8% stout. But I'm a fan of this one. Very pleasant. Worth drinking. geolgau (544) - Cluj-Napoca, ROMANIA - AUG 30, 2017
Sweet and chocolate-y. Silky roastiness, sweet cocoa, filter coffee, dark malts, alcohol spiciness and a bit of molasses. Slightly bitter and a bit of sea salt in there. PugUglyBrewer (840) - - AUG 8, 2017
A opaque black color with a short-lived head of light tan foam. The aroma is weakly comprised of chocolate malt. The flavor is a silky but dry roast coffee and cocoa. The oyster shell is more of a gimmick than a contributor to the style. elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - JUL 18, 2017
can, $2.99. Pours medium brown, off white head shows good retention. Smoky, pencil lead, medium dark chocolate and hazelnut on nose. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Flavor lands softly, threading toasted brown malt notes with something darker and more earth driven. Perhaps the salt in the oysters brings richness, though I didn’t detect any distinctive flavor notes. I don’t know if this is worth seeking out for that reason, but the brew remains very satisfying overall Voodoo (716) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 20, 2017
pours a near black with a creamy tan head which dissipated quickly......aroma of chocolate, mineral, slight coffee ground......taste is very smooth with a full mouthfeel, mild bitterness, appearance of booze, sweet bread, hint of mineral. Quite nice.
