2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz can poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours a very dark red color. It’s not very opaque considering it’s a nearly 8% stout. It also seems to feature somewhat strong carbonation if I look closely in the glass. The head is a weak looking one finger mocha color with low retention.
S: Seems to be a sweet stout, with primarily chocolate, hazelnut, and faint vanilla. The oysters come through quite well, as a sort of salty, mineraly aroma. Could be a bit less metallic, but that’s just nitpicking.
T: Surprisingly, the flavor is sitting on the opposite end of the stout spectrum of the aroma, with tons of roasted malts, lactose cream, and coffee. It comes across as smoky at times, too. After the initial finish, the mineral profile comes through. The flavor has a bit too much metallic presence to be great, especially on the aftertaste. Really, it just doesn’t work for me.
M: Tingly and astringent. It seems dry at first, but after a while, the charred, metallic aftertastes seemingly introduces a syrupy quality to the texture that I’m not a fan of.
O: I like oysters. I love stouts. Sadly, I don’t love this; even ’like’ is too strong of a word here. Just too disjointed for my tastes.
can, $2.99. Pours medium brown, off white head shows good retention. Smoky, pencil lead, medium dark chocolate and hazelnut on nose. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Flavor lands softly, threading toasted brown malt notes with something darker and more earth driven. Perhaps the salt in the oysters brings richness, though I didn’t detect any distinctive flavor notes. I don’t know if this is worth seeking out for that reason, but the brew remains very satisfying overall Voodoo (667) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 20, 2017

12 oz can. A jet black pour with a very dense high khaki head. Aroma is very dark chocolate, leather, wood, grass, and apple. This is quite tasty. A nice roast at the perfect level with a lasting flavor and some decent hops. Tasty filling beer. BroSpud (2188) - , Massachusetts, USA - NOV 14, 2016
12oz can. Pours dark mahogony with a head that doesn’t stick around too long. Still trying to figure out this whole oyster stout thing. I’m not a huge fan of oysters in general but this stout is delicious. Is it the oysters? Probably not. Lots of other flavors in there like molasses and chocolate. Oysters not so much. But this is good.
