COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
You might not expect a Saison in winter. But the enemy didnt expect Washington to cross the icy Delaware, either. Expectations be damned, we say. Were sneaking up on winter with a boatload of bravado and this Belgian-style farmhouse ale. Dry hopped with whole organic cardamom pods, our Saison has an assertive spiciness. In your face, winter.

Reviewed 1/16/2013. 12 oz can into a Samuel Smith pint glass. A: Pours a golden yellow color thats seemingly clear at first. Some exposure to light will reveal a hazier body. The head is a one finger white color. Its kind of disappointing by style standards, as it doesnt have the supreme retention or lacing qualities I expect. S: Well spiced. And I really mean well spiced. Aside from the strong lemongrass quality the aroma provides, many spices - such as ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and the advertised cardamom - come through in an almost explosive manner. If there any such thing as a winter saison, this would be it. T: There is a lot of lemon flavor in general, with a finish that evokes not only cardamom, but both gingerbread cookies and fresh cut grass as well. Complexity is muted at best. Works as simple refreshment quite well. Lets be honest, though, its not a great saison. M: A bit on the syrupy side - which is usually a deal breaker in a saison. Im almost content to blame the slight undercarbonation (though it seems to perk up as the wet finish builds up), but Im thinking its caused by the general sweetness. The texture features excellent initial crispness, but that syrupy, vaguely sweet linger comes close to ruining things completely. Dryness tries to accumulate past the aftertaste to no avail. O: Those looking for a complex, thought evoking saison, look elsewhere. Those looking for a simple thirst quenching beer in a can, give it a try. I have to dock points for not being a good representation of the style, but as a regular spiced beer, its solid.

From BandC. Decent saison, didnt really get a big flavor of the cardamom pods, but that is probably good, as a little goes a long way. Sweetened as it warmed. . Serving: Can

Crystal banana blonde body with a ring of head. Mildly clovey, earthy nose, and it repeats a similar sequence on the palate. Rather cookie cutter saison typical of today.

From tap at the brewpub. Light unclear yellow golden color with off white head. Malty, hoppy and yeasty aroma, bread, grassy, light spicy, light fruity. Light sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Can. Pours a hazy golden light orange with a thin white head. Aroma of light fruits, bready malt, spices, apple. Flavor is quite spicy up front, very peppery, cinnamon, cardamom, light fruits, apple, apricot, bready malt. Light, peppery, spicy saison, very tasty. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)

Spicy character on the nose and palate. Interesting Belgian notes, but I like that they aren't overwhelming. Nice clean finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

For a saison, this is oddly light in color, and even in taste, it has a tartness to it thats unexpected. But the spiciness it has is just perfect. The can says its brewed with cardamom, and that must be what gives it a nice effect that combines a light and crisp summer beer with a stronger bodied session beer. The combination is nice.

I poured it from the can into a glass. It pours a hazy golden color with a white head. The aroma is lemon and spice. The taste is lemon, clove, yeast, and hops. Its dry and bitter. Its very crisp. This was flavorful and refreshing.

Pours a hazy bright yellow with white head. A sour citrus and yeast aroma. A citrus, wheat and yeast taste that suddenly has a grainy and bad malt taste that lingers.

Having previously disliked 21st Amendments offerings, I only bought this because: a) they once made a beer called "Monks Blood" that was very tasty b) my selections at the store were limited My first sip was from the can, but when I poured into a glass it still tasted extremely metallic and bitter. Once the nasty bitterness faded, I could detect some of the promised cardamom, which hung around my mouth like a team of cheerleaders after their team just got trounced in an ugly way. If I brewed this at home, I would consider it a failure and in a region that produces many fine Saisons, there is no reason for this overpriced, soulless insult to the style to exist. In short: blech.
