COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Toaster Pastry is an absolutely fantastic India-Style Red Ale, clocking in at 7.6% ABV and 74 IBU. Biscuit malts give the beer a slightly nutty, crust-like flavor, while pale and dark crystal malts create the mouthfeel and flavors reminiscent of strawberry jam. Calypso and other experimental hops give this ruby ale a welcome bite, plus a few more in the hop back for a toasty-sweet aroma.

On tap at April Brews Day, pours a hazy copper with a medium off-white head. Aroma brings out lots of bready malt upfront, followed by resinous hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with bready caramel malt and resinous hops. Has a sort of puff pastry quality. Meh.

Draft - Lots of grapefruit and nice caramel. Deep cloudy dark Amber with a decent white head. Sweet, resin, malt and some light pith. Nice.

Can @ home. Clear amber pour with a big, soapy, khaki head. Amazing grapefruit and pineapple aromas. Like, really nice and unexpectedly good. A lot of fruits, some caramel malts, and toast. The flavor is still pretty good and fruit forward, but falls a little bit flat when compared to the aroma. Nice malt sweetness and toasted bread. Good grapefruit, some pine and earthy bitterness, and dried pineapple. Solid, though.

Can from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark copper with a foamy beige head. Aroma of strange fruits over somewhat roasty malt. Med + body. Flavor is amber - including nuts and a bit of chocolate - but there’s a good deal of hop. I’m thinking tropical with just a bit of citrus. Could be kiwi fruit. Goes a bit earthy with time.

Can sample at a Red Ale tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Copper to amber color with a beige head. Aroma of piney and fruity hops, slightly stale, with some malt. Flavor has sweetish malt, a bit caramelly, and fruity and piney hops, slightly stale, with nice bitterness. Medium-bodied. Decent.

568 ml royal pint can. Red pour, definite strawberry nose, flavor is well-balanced, citrusy, dank, some malt sweetness, really hope these guys start improving their beer quality. This is a step in the right direction.
