Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear brown with a red hue and a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of chocolate, dark grain and earthy bread. Dark orangish brown with a fluffy off white head. Good strong malted barley roasted grain and nutty aroma and taste with a full bodied palate. Not bad.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2008 Easily the best beer I had on tap at the brewpub. This was like a light brown porter and absolutely impressed me. The body was dark brown with copper at the edges. A light tan head lasted for a long time. The aroma was malty with marischino cherries and some molasses. The taste was lightly burned coffee with some dark chocolate. However, this roasted character came together in a very pleasing manner. There was some nice earthy raisin in the finish. Classic for the heavier end of the style as far as I am concerned. Poured a moderately dark chestnut brown with an off white head and a bit of sticky lacing as it made its way down the glass. Nose had a touch of light roast along with nice notes of caramel, toffee, and sweet malt. Perhaps a touch of chocolate. Taste was a bit more standard malt without some of the nuances of the nose that intrigued me. Mouthfeel was good with a medium body and decent carbonation levels. Not a bad offering at all. Enjoyed this place and will go back next time we are in Lawrence.

Tap @ 23rd Street with beastiefan2k. Medium brown color. Nice toasted flavor. Aroma of toasted malts. Nice malt. Light hop. Great toasted grain flavors all through the finish.
