Origin of name: This beer is named after its unique garnet red-brown color (darker than most dark beers). The color of Černá Hora Granát could lead its consumer to call it a "black beer". Taste: it is characterized by its fullness, sweetness and very dark color. A high proportion of Bavarian, caramel and coloring malt based on a longstanding recipe gives the beer its unmistakable caramel taste and markedly influences its bitterness. It is distinguishable by its good head and vigor. Has won 1st place in category of dark lagers upon competition - "The Golden Cup PIVEX - BEER 1999". Winning competition "Dočesná Žatec" in 1995 -1999 years

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks kerenmk. Clear brown with a beige head. Aroma has mild roastiness with a light smoky note, malt, caramel, a bit of dark bread, a nutty hint and a faint diacetyl note. Slightly roasty flavor, slightly smoky, with caramel, some bread and a dry, more roasty, slightly bitter and herbal finish. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

Dirty-beige head, slowly collapsing over clear but dark-chestnut beer. Nose is sweet-chocolate & liquorice; further undergrowth, dark leaves, brown bread and rainwater. Rather dry, woody and again leafy flavours, with an undercurrent of sweet bread-and-chocolate. Rather good balance, as there is also a touch of acidity. Warming up, just a tad too much caramelly sweetness welling up. Very present carbonation, spritzy. Medium bodied at best, creamy head thanks to its stability. More dry than bitterish. Surprisingly good tmavý, certainly seen the deplorably poor polotmavý. Thanks, Peter!

Jan 2013. Bottle. Dark brown with big beige head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with some bread. A bit roasty with medium bitterness in the finish. Malty caramel sweetness. Medium bodied, medium carbo. Too watery.

Color - dark brown, almost black, to light - opaque. Foam = 4 - hearty, medium firmness, color cream. Aroma = 4.5 - rich, black patent malt, coffee, caramel, chocolate, hops are not felt. Taste = 4.5 - full body, good burnt bitterness, dry (taste like dry stouts), and hints of coffee, light sweetness in the aftertaste. Indeed, a great dunkel.

Bottle. Dark brown color, big beige long lasting head. Bready aroma, some caramel. Taste is malt and coffee; it’s pretty mild tho.

Flaska från SB. Mörk rubinfärgad vätska och gräddigt skum. Doft av kaffe, choklad och lätt bränd karamell. Mjuk munkänsla. Kort eftersmak.

A - Pours dark brown, almost black beer with a generous beige foamy head that slowly dissipates. Moderate lacing S - Strong roasted malts. Chocolate and coffee notes. I can detect some yeast aroma. T - Again roasted malts. Medium bitterness that stays for long. Maltiness is evident with some notes of caramel and toasted coffee. M - In the mouth feels medium-bodied, medium carbonation O - A very good Dark Ale with the right amount of bitterness to make it easy to drink and pretty enoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at Hostinec Richtar Jakub. Aroma caramel, ripe apples, light smoke(?). Creamy off-white head, clear cola colour. Taste like a second running of a cheap coffee. Watery, washing rag. Bitter astringent aftertaste. This one is a step in wrong direction.

On tap. Very satisfying dark beer. Was sampling a few dark Czech beers and I came back to this one in the end. Carmelly, sweet, refreshing. Not too thick in fact as the color would lead you to assume. Very aromatic bubbly head. Will come back to this one again :)
