Armand’4 Winter Oude Geuze is a blend of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic, brewed, aged, blended and bottled by Armand Debelder. This one-time and possibly the last bottling comes in a fancy Asti Spumante Champagne bottle. Armand only used Challenger hops in this brew. He’s in fact the only lambic-brewer to use Challenger hops to make his Geuze. 60 % malted barley, 40 % wheat, aged hops and water. Each season’s geuze has an unique and different blend.

750 mL bottle. Bottled 4/22/2010. Unknown original review date. Big head, orange body. Hazy. A little bit of lacing and brief retention. Smell is mild citrus. Acidic lemon and a medium funk. Less intense than the others. Taste is really tart. Similar to Zomer in it’s acidity. A little vinegar. This one has the herbal notes again, but less so than the Zomer. Puckering finish. Not as dry, but still quite sour. Less complex. Medium carbonation. Still a good gueuze, but the least impressive of the four. Feels like the flavors could go wrong at any moment, but it stays the course.

Perfekt avrundad syra! Citrus och grapefrukt finns där (svagt jordgubbe). Stall, spannmål och vete. Delikat och läskande. Perfekt efter århundradets lyxmiddag på Savoy.

Strongest mouthfeel impact. Reddish colour with light head. Tart side of vinegar like raspberry.

Dark orange color with a solid foam layer. Sour nose with old feet. The taste is funky and spreads a bitterness throughout the whole mouth area. Dry and sour aftertaste.

Bottle at Zwanze Day Zurich. Der Reigen der sauren Überbiere geht weiter, und auch dieses fällt nicht ab.

With Toni and anstei and co. Hazy orange color with big white head. Hay, flowery, peppery. A bit warming. Ethereal, herbal? Hints of rubber again. Soft foamy mouthfeel, tickly soft carbonation. These 4 seasons were absolutely mind-blowing.

Bottle at Akkurat. Pours an orange-ish yellow with no head. Aroma is citric, lemon and slight pepper. Taste is peppery, slight herbs, citric acidity, lemon and slight hay. Slightly more carbonated than the others.

Bottle from Brad. Thanks! A: Red color with a huge foamy white head. N: Peppercorn, apricot, acetone, vinegar, musty attics, hint of cherry, old growth oak, grapefruit and lemon rind. T: Good and tart. Some light malt. Funky. M: Light body, foamy carbonation, no alcohol. O: Really good blend. Complex and well-rounded; lacking in the over the top vinegar pucker in favor of something more sublime.

Bottle. Hazy darker orange in color with a frothy whitish head. Notes of lemon and funky stable in aroma at first. Tart and sour notes as well. Lemon notes in taste, some funkyness and wheat too. Smooth but tart, with apples later on. Dry and slightly oaky finish with pleasant sour notes. Good, but my least favorite from these four seasons blends.

Bottle at home. Now 5 year old bottle. Pours a hazy orange colour, with a soapy, big, off-white head. Aroma of oak, forest floor, horse, barnyard, rowanberries, vinegar and dried apricot. The flavour really follows up with more sweet fruit blended with barnyard and forest floor. Has a slick and soft mouth feel, and a light bitterness. A fantastically balanced gueuze with a nice mix between sweet and sour fruit, and feels quite fresh as well.
