33cl. Pours golden, medium white head. Spicy nose, little bit of fruits in the flavor. Dry bitter finish. Beer should be more balanced, the finish overwhelms me too much.

Bottle at the lambic cave. Hazy golden body with a medium white head. Yeast, lime, hops, fruit. Perfectly carbonated. Great beer - underrated.

330ml bottle at 3 Fonteinen. Cloudy yellow/orange with an off-white head. Aroma of yeast, banana, grass, malt. Flavour the same with added bananabread with yeast.

3 Fonteinen Brouwerij Ambachtelijke Geuzestekerij _Beersel Blonde_ Belgian Strong Pale Ale at 7% ABV _(C$6.02 at Willow Park Wine & Spirits, 330 ml, best before 11-Apr-2018, acquired 1-Apr-2017, reviewed 1-May-2017)_ Appearance: clear pale gold with two fat fingers of rocky white head, excellent retention and well-defined lacing. (5/5) Aroma: bready malt, honey, floral, banana, hint of white pepper. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-low bitter, light peppery spice. (6/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry moderate bitter and mildly spicy finish. (3/5) I was really puzzled by the naming of this: 3 Fonteinen calls their BSPA “Beersel” Blonde, when it has no association whatsoever with Oud Beersel? But then, I figured it out: Beersel is the name of the town. The two breweries are literally a fifteen minute walk from each other. Still, gotta say, seems like a little bit of a dick move - if it confused a fairly hardcore beer geek like me, then you gotta think the possibility for consumer confusion is pretty high. Anyway. On to the beer. And, well, hrm. It’s not actually bad, y’know? But when you consider they make one of the best Gueuzes in the world, perhaps it might be better sticking with that? Really. It’s a very, very pretty beer. And that’s pretty much the best I can say about it. Stick to Gueuze and don’t bother contract brewing at the De Proefbrouwerij. Train home. Directement de la bouteille. Sweet malts, grain, sugar, light wort, grassy, light metallic. Moderate sweet and bitter. Medium body, doughy and creamy. Ok, but why?

I wasn’t paying attention when I bought this and I thought it was Oud Beersel, I was disappointed when I popped it in the fridge when the label was not as I expected it. Then I examined it when I popped it out of the fridge and it’s 3 Fonteinen, so I was no longer disappointed. And then I tasted it and I was disappointed again. It’s not bad, but it should be better. A perfect beer to have while I’m cooling down, but it’s so thin that it washes away in a few seconds. A beer that can be overpowered by saliva is pretty damn weak. However, this is 7% and it sure doesn’t taste like it. It does look nice in my little goblet though, so marks for that.

330 ml buttplug bottle. The beer is a hazy yellow with a big head of white foam. Great head retention and lacing. The aroma is dry and herbal with hints at cotton candy and clove. Sweet with hints of esters popping up throughout. Medium body and medium high carbonation. Spritzy mouthfeel.

330ml bottle pours a hazy golden colour with a finger of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is grains with some light fruits and grass. Taste is a malty sweetness with a grassy, spicy hop bitterness. Light bodied with decent carbonation. Overall, a nicely done blonde ale. Recommended.
