Soft and generously bodied , this is a beer that showcases fruity notes and a smooth lingering maltiness. The addition of Saaz hops from Bohemia adds a balancing medium bitterness and spicy aroma. Traditional bottle conditioning naturally carbonates this beer and helps add to is complexity.

Cask conditioned ABIA 2003: Complete with the good old English hand pumps and everything. This, i was told by the brewers is an ESB.. So in effect an English bitter i suppose. Strange tha they use saaz hops in this one. That creates a floral hoppyness, which is somewhat overwhelmed by the smooth necatry apricoty flavours, very softly bitter, in fact pretty soft (in a good way) all round, quite unique i think. And good to see someone in Australia brewing cask conditioned ales.

Bottle from Plonk (March 2014), now called Golden Altbier. Dark golden, small white head, caramel/toffee, mild grassy bitterness, sweet spicy finish, light body, low carbonation. Ok.

Very little head. Cloudy caramel colour. And there are caramel notes on the nose. Bit of toast, too. Butter in taste with light citrus tinge. Light bitterness at end. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2014 Poured a clouded honey brown colour with a white collar that laced poorly. Carbonation low. Main difference was that there were lots (and lots) of yeasty particles settling out which was not a good look. Aroma subtly of malt. Taste of subtly sweet malt and a spicy bitterness. Light body. Crisp with a lingering bitter/spicy finish. Rated 11/10/2013. Poured a cloudy honey amber colour with a one-finger off-white foamy head that diminished quickly and laced in rings. Moderate carbonation as seen by medium sized bubbles forming trails. Aroma of subtle sour malt and earthy hops. Taste of sweet malts, hops bitterness with spice. Light body. Crisp and light with a long mild hops bitterness finish. OK.

Pours a dark gold with not much off white head that fades quickly. Smells nice. Sweet nose. Some hop character. Honey and floral notes. Taste is fizzy with a bit of stone fruit and some sweet malts. Light body. Kind of bland and boring.

From a 330ml bottle on 15/3/2013. The bottle is labelled 3 Ravens Golden Altbier and ABV is listed 5.0% but the description is the same as that listed above. Pours a slightly cloudy golden orange. Has a relatively slight fruity aroma. In the mouth, its quite flavoursome with lots of sweet citrus fruit (orange), some distinct spicy and herbal notes, and a medium hop present. An enjoyable ale.

Very similar to the white ale. Some spice and cinammon, ahla Belgian wit in style, but theres also an overlay of simple sweet and slightly cloying malts. Easy to quaff but not great in the true sense of the word.

Nothing head - fades quickly. Copper, burnt orange colour. Lively nose, fruity, with some ever so light stewed notes. Quited lifted and a little sweet. Interesting palate, some sweet malt notes drives the profile although the finish does firm up with some bitterness. Not bad at all.

Pours dirty yellow with quickly deminishing head. Aroma is far too sweet if not a little synthetic. Taste is soapy in taste but finish is surprisingly the most pleasant part of this drinking experience. Poor effort from a brewery that is made some half decent brews in the past.
