I honestly can’t think of a bad thing to say about this one. Pour is jet black with thin tan head and low carbonation. Aroma is a mix of dried fruit from raisin to a hint of cherry. Flavour is big and round, lots of sweetness strong prune, and a hints of coffee. Does a miraculous job of concealing the 8%abv, the finish is well balanced, not cloyingly sweet or dry. davidm (2081) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - SEP 1, 2012
Bottle at the Rainbow Hotel. Memorable, great balance. Aromas of caramel, liquorice, milk chocolate, coffee. Taste is sweet and bitter, long lasting. Palate is creamy, and full bodied. Black, with a frothy head. gam (4078) - brisbane, AUSTRALIA - AUG 10, 2012

Bottle, 12C. Very dark brown with a light tan head that fades to a cm. Aroma of treacle, mocha, grass, vanilla, prunes, figs, peat. Sweet, but lighter-bodied than suggested by the aroma. Silky mouthfeel; like the way it’s full but well short of syrupy. Briefly sweet with treacle, coffee, raisins, mandarin peel, lots of prunes and some spices. Dries out at the end leaving dried fruits, hints of pepper and smoky wood. Weight of the beer is commensurate with flavours. Perhaps the woody finish arrives a bit soon, but I like this a lot.
