This is, in fact, a wheat beer. Beneath its rich, dark exterior and cascading head, you will find a classic unfiltered wheat presentation fused with the smooth, roasty, chocolate-like characteristics of the dark wheat malt. With a finish this unnervingly smooth, even a black sheep starts to feel normal again.

12 oz. bottle pours an opaque black with small tan head and a few spots of lacing. Aroma is not strong, but has chocolate, roasted malts, and hints of coffee and smoke. Taste is on the bitter side. Body is light to medium with average carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel. Im surprised that this is a wheat beer. If it had no label, I would have called this a porter. Nothing too complex, but nothing baaad either.

12 oz bottle courtesy of shrubber85. Thin white head on black liquid. Aroma has light smoke, chocolate and underlying malted wheat.

Flavor of dark roasted grain, chocolate notes, sweet body with a mild tone of smoke. Body is medium with a abrupt finish. Drinkable, no problems but I feel like it doesnt know want style it wants to be. Still worth a try.

Bottle. Pours deep dark mahogany, small tan head, dissipates fairly quickly leaving decent residual and good lacing. Aroma is roasty, ashtray, a bit smokey, wheat. Flavor is medium sweet, just a bit of bitterness, fairly low acidity, rich roasty flavor, toasted dark bread, a bit of tobacco. Medium body, silky mouthfeel. Very good.

Weak aroma of coffee with maybe a hint of chocolate. It's odd to pour a wheat that looks like a stout, but I guess that's what you get with a black wheat. Taste and drinkability are great. Good balance of hops and malt. It really is delicious.

12 bottle picked up in a variety sixer. Pours brownish black with a tan head that dissipates pretty quickly. Confused by the aroma and the flavor. But nothing is that unpleasant. Just the flavors and aromas dont quite complement each other. Its ok.

12 oz. bottle poured to a Czech-pils glass, showing a clear, darkest brown color, with ruby highlighting, frothy, brownish tan, head foam that gradually reduced to a ring & film, and ribbony lacing. The nose was roasted, creamy malt, chocolate, a touch of coffee, and a little caramel & toffee sweetness. Medium bodied, the taste started with a pleasant creaminess to the mouthfeel, then the dark roast notes, followed by medium, earthy & roasted hop bitterness that lingered, a hint of licorice, along with a bit of tannic tartness on the tongue. Lively carbonation assisted, as the finish remained astringent & dry. Decent, and drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown with just a whisp of head. Aroma is relatively mild with some sweet chocolate notes. Chocolatey roast flavor with a dry mild bitter finish. Very highly carbonated and effervescent. Presents more like a porter as there is very little wheat character in this one. Not bad, would be more interesting with some more prevalent yeast character or a second note to go with the dark roasted malt.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Translucent medium brown with one finger head. Aroma is cocoa/some coffee, medium body, medium carbonation, and thin small-bubble lacing. Taste is rich cocoa, roasty, and some herbal hops,

Very little head, great nose of chocolate and coffee. Nice dark brown almost black color. Taste leaves more to be desired very sweet and malty with very little hop presence to equal it out. Mouth feel has a lingering sugary almost syrup feeling. Might be much better as a nitro or on tap for more carbonation.

Interesting d-weiss. Picked up notes of chocolate, alcohol and a slight hint of licorice. The appearance is as expected, opaque and unfiltered. The taste is unexpectedly complex, quite a symphony. Banana, chocolate, again a slight hint of licorice and the warming of the alcohol on the back end. The mouthfeel is reminiscent of Edelweiss Dunkel Weissbier to my palate, not identical but very similar. Overall a very good brew.
