This is, in fact, a wheat beer. Beneath its rich, dark exterior and cascading head, you will find a classic unfiltered wheat presentation fused with the smooth, roasty, chocolate-like characteristics of the dark wheat malt. With a finish this unnervingly smooth, even a black sheep starts to feel normal again.

Bottle. Very unique and really good. As smooth as any beer I’ve had. Can’t wait to see this on tap around me.

Very dark, black color. No wheat aroma at all. Taste is murky, thick, high viscosity. Over carbonated as well. Way, way too much of a good thing. This tastes like homebrew gone terribly wrong.

Very unique. Quite drinkable with a light body for a dark beer, but heavier flavors packed in.

Tap. Nose was roast-y and chocolate. Taste was unique, porter-like with licorice. Extremely unique and worth having more than one of.

On draft at The Beer Market in Bolingbrook, IL. Pours a rich, dark brown with a creamy looking tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits, chocolate, some wheat malt presence. Flavor is roasted malts, some bitter chocolate and coffee notes. Medium bodied with a nice smooth, creamy texture. I’d like a little more wheat presence, but this is drinkable.

Draft at the Burger Joint, Ogilve Transportation Center. Deep brown like dried blood, with just a little bit of highlighting at the bottom. A thin tan head. Has the creamy smell of a porter or milk stout. A very big taste that’s too complex to pigeonhole. Start with some Schwartzbier malt, Just a slight astringency. A bit of baker’s chocolate and again, a creamy texture. Quite filling after the Tallgrass 8-Bit I just had. Lacks the "spice" of a wheat beer, but surely offers a fine smooth texture, emphasized at the end by the return of a milk stout-ish mouthfeel.

On tap @ the Über Tap Room in the Wisconsin Cheese Shop, Milwaukee. Deep brown with mahogany highlights. Dusty roasty aroma, light mouthfeel, with the dark malts totally overwhelming any wheat traits. This drinks more like a light stout.

Very good. Big fan of 3 Sheepsn and this beer adds to my appreciation of the brewery.

wlajwl (7013) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - OCT 5, 2013
Aroma is dark fruit, wheat and slight roasted notes. The flavor is mildly roasted/dry malts, dark fruit, fruit and a tart/tangy finish.

BVery (11241) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - SEP 28, 2013
Bottle. Very dark brown - cola pour with a small rocky head. Cold press coffee and dark chocolate on the nose. Taste is semi-sweet, not overly bitter but a touch of roasty bitter. Pretty darn good.
