Black with thick tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells like toasted bread and chocolate. Semi-sweet, roast, and a very full body. A baking chocolate bitterness balances. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - OCT 19, 2011
Draft at Churchkey. Amber pour with a small head. Nose holds some nice orange peel from the Cascade, along with some nice pine and spruce that melds with the spicy rye nicely. The flavor is much of the same; my only complaint is that the bitter finish is a bit non-descript. Still, a great first effort. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 13, 2011
Draft. Small beige head, lightly hazed dark amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, rye, caramel, orange. Taste is moderately sweet, rye, caramel, some orange. Medium-full body, somewhat sticky. The rye dominates, not really picking up the wet hopping. BeerandBlues2 (13304) - Escondido, California, USA - OCT 10, 2011
Tap. Pours clear tawny/amber with a medium, fizzy off-white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is spicy rye, earthy, fruity esters, floral and citrus hops, light alcohol, and caramel malt. Flavor is spicy hops, rye, caramel malt, earthy, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation. Travlr (24667) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 18, 2011
Draft at Afterwords. Hazy variegated amber color, small white edge head, moderate lacing. Served a bit too cold, but the aroma and flavor really came out as it warmed. Aroma of corned beef sandwich, hold the corned beef! Nice rye and light pumpernickel aroma, in other words. Taste is bitter start to finish, with hints of sweet malt. Spices enter toward the end with a decent bitter finish. Great body and mouthfeel. Nice one!
