On tap at 21st street brewers bar. Very strong, heavy bourbon barrel. Interesting because you can taste that it's buffalo trace, not just random oak and char. This is a huge upgrade over the base beer.

From notes. Enjoyed at a tasting at Andrew’s house on August 18. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a medium black with a thin tan head that falls to a ring and then vanishes relatively quickly. The aroma is really good. There is a heavy coffee and vanilla presence with a dark roasted malt and a dark chocolate. The bourbon is also heavy on the aroma. A light charred oak brings up the back in something that’s really well balanced. The flavor is much of the same. Big coffee, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, and oak flavors control this thing and balance beautifully. The mouth feel is slightly thin with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly big bourbon and coffee aftertaste. It’s really well balanced, but just a touch hot. 650 mL bottle. Black body. Tons of bourbon in the nose. Vanilla. A bit of milk chocolate. Taste also has tons of bourbon. Oak. More bourbon. Covers up everything in this beer. A bit of coffee. Lots of oak and bourbon. Doesn’t taste as light as the regular, just because of the quantity of bourbon. Extremely boozy. Covers up the rough attributes of the base beer. alexsdad06 (10784) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - NOV 23, 2014
22 oz bottle shared by phaleslu at Natifest (from notes). Pours dark cola brown to almost black with a thin off white film. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate (more chocolate than the other versions), bourbon, vanilla, coconut, wood, an unexpected spicy note maybe from the wood. Good earthy bitterness and a more coffee than I remember too. Solid beer (I really like what these guys are doing with barrel aging) and different enough from the other barrel treatment.

Bottle shared at Natifest ’14. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate, fruit and wood aroma. Heavy toasted chocolate malt and complex alcohol flavor with a heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is standout beer. bnokk (545) - Lee, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 8, 2014
4 Hands Bona Fide Barrel Aged Stout. Bomber. Natifest ’14 Buffalo Trace Barrel Aged
Appearance – Very Dark – of course. No head to speak of.
Nose – Very deep stout smell. Quite amazing.
Flavor – Thoroughly delicious. Super deep roasty flavors. Complex & mellows throughout the tasting.
Notes – Excellent aged beer. Much better than typical ‘barrel’ aged beers. Likely due to the solid underlying stout and expert craftsmanship of barrel aging.

Bottle shared at Natifest by phaleslu. Pours a near black with no head. The aroma is decadent chocolate cake. Some cinnamon and vanilla beans. The taste is sweet and a little boozy. Big body. Low carbonation. phaleslu (10652) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 3, 2014
22 oz. bottle via local STL in-person trade. 168 bottles, May 2014 release. Pours a deep, kind of inky opaque brown with a tiny ring for a head. Gigantic chocolate aroma, with vanilla, oak, brown sugar, fudge, dates, cake, and faint spice. Flavor of vanilla, fudge, brownie, pralines, oak, and toasted and roasted malts. Medium-bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a rich, sweet mouthfeel that finishes dry. Along with Madagascar and the other versions of this, these guys are really proving to be world class with their barrel aging experiments. Keep them coming.
