500 ml bottle. Solid black with a fluffy cream-coloured head that settles to a thin cap. Aromas of lemon, pine and flowers with an underlying black coffee note. Taste is dark chocolate and roasted malt at first but soon eclipsed by firm pine resin and citrus hop notes. Lingering bitter finish leading into a dark coffee aftertaste. Surprisingly well balanced for the style.
UPDATED: OCT 31, 2017 500ml bottle. Pours an amber brown with a beige head. Aroma: roasted malt, nuts, mild licorice, mild citrus and pine notes. Taste: roasted malt, pine, nuts, citrus flavours. Medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Mild lingering bitterness. Easy drinking, but not amazing. CurlyJoe (427) - AUSTRALIA - DEC 16, 2016
Bitter aroma, mild. Appearance is dark brown with white head, pretty thick. Mostly bitter and mild chocolately taste, sweet finish. Smooth velvety mouth feel. LesArgen (389) - AUSTRALIA - NOV 11, 2016
This dark, black beer has a great combo of aromas, including aniseed, biscuit, breadcrumbs, and cherry ripe. The alcohol makes its presence known, along with a strong cherry presence which makes it slightly sweeter than I’d like. It does have a nice finish, with roasted malt and grapefruit. Draught @ Young & Jackson, Melbourne
Deep ruby, holds a creamy beige head.
Aroma is nutty, toasty, burnt crust & licorice malt notes with a good measure of citrus, grass & pine hop.
Full body, slick slightly chewy texture.
Good toasted nutty malt presence, slightly burnt, licorice-y with an American/Cascade combo of hop flavours dark/cooked citrus/marmalade, touch of green leaves & grass, reasonably high bitterness.
Solid malt character is the star here. ngunity (182) - - SEP 2, 2016
Poured dark with hints of pretty amber brown in the light. Drank quite easy with a nice roastiness. Remind me of a more roasty Schwarzbier. Good beer will drink again

On tap at Brewhouse Brisbane 030816. This beer has all the trademarks of a black IPA with a deep black colour, small creamy looking tan head, dark bitter hop aromas and a bitter finish. varanid99 (1419) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 13, 2016
Black pour with a long lasting tan head. Coffee, pine, roast aromas. Taste is roasty, bitter chocolate, pine, then coffee, little bitterness but not over the top. Solid. sm89walt (2092) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JUL 31, 2016
Keg - Mona Vale Hotel. Poured a near opaque brown/black with a small but dense, lasting and lacing beige head. Aromas of chocolate, liquorice, coffee and roasted malt with a citrus, pine and resin counterpoint. Mid-weight, medium carbonation and a moderate to long finish at first hop-based before fading into coffee-esque aftertaste. Good intensity but balanced throughout so as not to seem overbearing or conflicted.
