Black tar appearance with choc head. Wonderfully smooth and well balanced bitterness. I’ll have it in mars.
Bottle. Pours opaque brown-black with a thin, short-lived coffee-tan head. Nice round aroma of sweet chocolate, coffee and roast. Burnt bitter flavour with some acidity that is subdued by comparison and even slightly watery. Light-medium body, average and slightly creamy carbonation with a lingering acidic bitterness. Good solid stout. It's nothing more than that, but it doesn't try to be anyway. It's quietly dignified, it's weetbix.

Bottle 330ml. @ [ The Stat Improver Tasting ] - Saxo, Højbjerg - Aarhus, Denmark.
[ As 4 Pines Stout ].
Clear dark black - red brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, dark malt, chocolate, coffee, dusty malt, light to moderate roasted. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, dusty malt, bread, dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft.
Bottle in Sydney. Dark body off white head. Roast cocoa. But altogether a pretty basic stout. craftyrocker (53) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - JUN 28, 2017
My second non-sweet stout. 330mL bottles, BB30/8/17. First bottle was slightly oxidised. Luckily the second was fine.
Appearance: Black/dark brown. After a minute, the tan head settles down to a broken film partly with bubbles. Laces nicely.
Aroma: A bit roasty and chocolatey, a little boozy. Nothing special.
Taste: Cohesive. Roast malt, slight breadish malt, dark chocolate, minor background hops. Malt/coffee aftertaste. The dry finish is awkward given the beer being slightly sweet. Moderate bitterness.
Palate: Viscous body with moderate-average carbonation to suitably get the dry stout across.
Overall: Due to inexperience I was surprised this was nothing like Guinness. Interesting, but would not buy again.
