Bottle, at Encore Liquid Lounge in the Loop. Fruity nose, but different than the usual wit nose. Hazy yellow color, the bottle pour bubbles can’t keep up, leaving a thin scrum of bubbles. But the taste is a big, big surprise: Not a hint of passion fruit, but a slap on the back. Makes for a different kind of fruity tartness. Some lime works in midway through, or sweetened key lime. And the spice? My fall back guess is cilantro or sage. After a summer parade of mild light wits and kölsches, this is a refreshing splash in the face. 12 oz. Bottle. Pours a hazy pale yellow with small white head. The aroma focuses on the tropical fruit, with a strong fleshy note of pomegranate and passion fruit. There are mild spice notes as well as some bready malt. Flavor is fruity, spicy, and overall interesting and complex for this style. A wash of the aforementioned tropical fruit, along with some spice and hay. Some cherries show up towards the finish. Though, this finishes on a mildly spicy hop note. Interesting beer that i’m not sure I would have guessed it was a wit base had I not read the label. Overall, though, an impressive beer from is new chicago brewery. 17thfloor (2444) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2011
Very tasty beer here, had many iterations. Enjoyed them all, something like a well executed bud-light lime =p Welcome to Chicago! FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2011
UPDATED: JUN 12, 2012 On tap and in a bottle at different times. Pours a cloudy but bright orange with a small white head. Aroma is super fruity, lots of tropical notes with the passion fruit with just a touch of spiciness that is nice, very refreshing, almost juice like. Flavor is much the same, the passion fruit bursting forth along with citrus and a light bready wheat character and spices that work well with the fruitiness. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Interesting beer, super refreshing and crisp but almost fruit juice like. RAYBOY01 (2010) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 15, 2011
Pale yellow pour with white fluffy head. The nose is fruity with hints of grass. Initial flavor is sweet and fruity highlights (mango/passionfruit) over the lighly grainy malt bottom. Slightly tart finish. I’d like more wit yeastiness to show through in this style...but I enjoyed this refreshher just fine.

Draft at Fountainhead. Pours a turbid pale yellow with a stiff white head. Nose is very citrus forward and fruity. A big Pils presence comes through in the aroma as well. There is also an herbal spicy note as well. Somewhat lacking overall in terms of the yeast character, but it works. On taste, very bready cracker malts and orangey citrus notes. Lots of fruity goodness and a very well made witbier. Quite clean. Nice. andyhwcinc (1886) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 24, 2011
Enjoyed on tap at Fountainhead in Chicago, IL after going to some old dudes retirement party in a ritzy suburban country club. Appearance pretty cloudy, bright yellow with thin but rich white head that sticks to the glass. hombrepalo (1972) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 28, 2011
Aroma is really unique, citrus hops with a very apparent and pungent passion fruit, very ’south of the border’ for sure. Taste really kicks you with the face with fruitiness, not really in a bad way, just unusual to me as the guava really does come through. Up front I’m not into it at all, the finish is nice though with good bitterness and it finishes crisp. For a wit, not really getting any spice/yeast, just fruit. There is a juiciness to it for sure, haven’t experienced a beer like this which is a plus, but I know now that its not really my thing. Glad I experienced it.
16 oz pour @ Maproom. Poured a lightly hazed gold color with a white head. Hoppy aroma with wheaty notes and a little clove. Very strong passion fruit and even some banana. The flavor was lemon/citrus/wheaty with a passion fruit finish. Light body, kinda like a mixed summer drink. Pretty good. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 27, 2011
Sampled at Map Room Event (Chicago, IL). Pours a really straw yellow hue, light and murky haze with a moderate bright white head that dies to a thicker film, laces ok. Aromas are a greatly spice lime rind, touches of spicy yeast, faint pepper, bigger passionfruit sweetness. Lime really takes over with some flaked wheat, maybe a touch of coriander. Grass, touches of florals, and orange. Really complex nose. Initial is tart up front, limes and touches of spice, a touch of meaty red fruit passionfruit, bread dough, flaked wheat, spicy hops and faint coriander. Touches of tartness move into more coriander and wheat bread, moving into that wit role with a lot of lime essence that tarts it up. Passionfruit remains minimal. A big flavor beer with some touches of Berliner sourness. Really interesting, tart sour limes up front moving into the backend with some mellow passionfruit, coriander, oranges, and bread dough. A very unique take on a beer style with a lot of tartness up front, good flavors. A true summer refreshing beer with a nice call to sourheads with those limes up front. Very well done and complex for a style that generally lacks creativity. It’s not a true wit, but is a really good beer. And could be an amazing sour beer base.
