Well, anything featuring a buzzard on the label can’t get high marks for appearance. Dark brown with fine carbonation. Malty, doughy aroma with some acidity and roast. Tangy, brown sugar and molasses tones, slow burn spicy. Slightly heavy body. Standard 12 oz longneck. New Leaf Market. Cousin_Larry (895) - - NOV 29, 2014
I give them credit for trying something different with the ancho chiles, but it just doesn’t work. BVery (10510) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - NOV 12, 2014
Bottle from Binny’s in Bloomingdale, IL. Dark cola pour with a small ring head. I really like the aroma on this - malty, hint of chocolate, and some chili spice. Taste is pleasant - mild roast, mild sweet, and again a hint of the roasted chili late but not spicy hot or anything. Decent brew. TattooJack (518) - Illinois, USA - SEP 19, 2014
Poured from the bottle of a six pack into a pint glass, smells sweet like malt, good negra. As is with most good cooking when anchos are used the spice makes an appearance about 15 seconds after the drink and makes a spicy and salty mouth feel that makes one instinctively take another drink. I always use a bottle of beer in my chili and I’m saving the 6th from this pack for my next one, can’t wait. edwardbass (839) - Illinois, USA - SEP 14, 2014
Better than its 44 point rating if you ask me. Dark brown color. Aroma is malty, similar to a porter. Taste is similar to a lighter porter, malty, chocolate, with a tiny bit of sourness, very little hops and a tinge of chile spiciness, but not very much. It’s OK.

12oz bottle shared. poured a medium brown color with light tan head. aroma is of sugar, caramel, sweet malt and a mild pepper. the flavor is a little different, sweet malts, caramels, pepper comes out as it warms up some. nice blend of flavor. Picked up a 12 oz bottle at Trader Joe’s and thought I’d give it a whirl. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a tiny bit of head that is gone within 10 seconds. Aroma is malty and a bit spicy. Kind of like graham crackers but with a hint of the ancho chili near the end. Taste is sort of muddled. It’s a malt forward beer with weird vegital flavors and a hint of pepper that goes away quickly. It leaves sort of an unpleasant aftertaste as it sticks to your mouth. I’m not really a fan of this one. fluffy (2472) - St Petersburg, Florida, USA - AUG 23, 2014
Sort of reminds me of a porter, or like a watered down version of Huna? Nice really. Better than expected.

Bottle. Dark ruby maroon color, bright tan head, a nice looking beer. Aroma of freshly roasted peppers, dark cocoa. Taste is hi carbonation espresso with an edge of heat. Light body. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - AUG 7, 2014
Brown pour with a tan head. The aroma has some brown sugar, toffee and some odd vegetable notes. The flavor makes the beer taste really old. I get something that tastes like plastic or silly putty. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
