Coincidentally to another rater, I thought this was very much like a Vienna beer. The ancho is very subtle and simply tries to add to it instead of being the dominant flavor. Lots of Vienna malt. Moderate carbonation. Nothing spectacular for me in this one, like in 5 lizard...

12oz bottle. Amber-brown body, respectable beige head. Big fruity ancho pepper aroma, coupled with some mild caramel chocolate. An interesting enough beer, sort of a Schwarz with some mild pepper tones. Not really balanced though, kind of a mess. Worthy of a tick, but probably not one to seek out.

Bottle from Binny’s in Bloomingdale, IL. Dark cola pour with a small ring head. I really like the aroma on this - malty, hint of chocolate, and some chili spice. Taste is pleasant - mild roast, mild sweet, and again a hint of the roasted chili late but not spicy hot or anything. Decent brew.

Draft at MOTR Pub on September 24, 2016. Almost opaque dark brown hue, nice malty nose with some fruit character, light body, nice malty flavor with fruit and some hot spiciness which isn’t overdone. Good brew.

Draft at Hopleaf. Pours deep brown with a small off white head. Aroma is fairly simple, sweet lightly chocolatey malts, some spicy notes, caramel. Flavor is a bit more complex, though the beginning is pretty straightforward, sweet light roasty, a touch nutty, the chile’s finally come out in the end adding some interesting lingering bite and earthy character. Medium body and a soft with crisp carbonation. Ok, but I was hoping for more all around depth and complexity in the flavor.

Tasted on draft in May 2011 at the Glunz Beer Expo. Pours hazy light amber with a thick white head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is malty caramel with some dark chocolate, bitter coffee, and overall general roasted notes. The flavor is very roasted with dark chocolate, coffee, a hint of caramel, and spicy peppers on the back of the throat. The body is medium with lively carbonation and a long roasted and spicy chili pepper finish.
