4/30/17. 12oz bottle from ABC. Rich dark amber pour with a nice khaki head. Malty aroma, caramel, some pepper. Malty flavor, caramel, smokey, mild pepper. Reminds of like a peppery doppelbock or something. thedm (6320) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAY 7, 2017
This bottled brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were very long lasting and left behind no visible carbonation semi-opaque cola brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The weak aroma was malty. The vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium roasted malt aftertaste. The strong hot peppery flavor contained notes of vinous clove and brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again. Frank (4259) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 14, 2011
Despite the exotic ingredients, this comes off as sort of a basic brew--not that that’s a bad thing. In fact, what I like about the crew at 5 Rabbit is they use unusual ingredients w/o being ridiculous about it and wind up making some very fine beers. For something called a dark ale, this one pours a much lighter color than I expected, a deep brownish amber, rather clear and around what I’d expect out of a red ale or a light colored brown. There is no head and this is unfortunately on the flat side w/ maybe slightly more carbonation than I’d expect from real ale from a hand pump. It’s a generally clean and malty beer w/ a nice, rich maltiness. The ancho chile flavor is subdued but it’s definitely there and adds a non-distracting touch of heat that’s so faint as to almost be imaginary. It’s all fairly tasty in the end and those who might fear a chili beer can relax and enjoy. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 18, 2012
12oz bottle from Pawola22 - thanks, Brian! Thinnish copper pour with a fast-evaporating head, leaving just a partial film of bubbles. Bitter chiles and burnt sugar in the nose and an impression of general harshness. Nice little bite on the tongue, and the chiles do tend to meld fairly well with the sweet caramel. It’s not poorly done, just overall not my kinda beer I think. FROTHINGSLOSH (8291) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 23, 2012
From the July 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark nut brown color with a huge foamy beige head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was malty and nutty with a hot pepper presence. The flavor was tangy, malty and a touch skunky with notes of nut and hot peppers. The finish was medium length tangy, nutty and hot pepper. Medium body. Odd.

Draft to pint. Looks decent; dark brown with thin white lacing. Smells a little skunky and metallic. Tastes like it smells but better with some bitterness. Mouthful is average. Good...for how cheap it is. jason1970 (143) - Illinois, USA - SEP 5, 2012
Didn’t know what to expect, but really wanted to try this dark ale from local 5 Rabbit Cerveceria. The toasted, malty caramel and sugar aroma with a very slight ancho chile comes through. It’s a dark reddish hue with a very small head that dissipates quick and leaves very little lacing. Taste is of very slight brown sugar and the ancho chile. Not spicy per se, but it teases your tongue.
Overall enjoyable and glad I tried it. Something local and out of the ordinary. beerisgoodforu (992) - Nørresundby, DENMARK - OCT 1, 2012
Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a beige head. Aroma is of smoked chili, caramel and toffee and some dark fruits notes with cocoa bean. The flavor follows the nose with subtle chili spice and the smoked chili flavor, some caramel, toffee, dark fruits and cocoa bean. The body is medium with a silky mouth feel. Overall an interesting brew. DWestrick (858) - Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 9, 2013
