Bottle in Chicago. Very interesting aroma and taste. Pretty solid and unique beer

This bottled brew from a bottle shop was served at a cool temperature and poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were very long lasting and left behind no visible carbonation semi-opaque cola brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The weak aroma was malty. The vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium roasted malt aftertaste. The strong hot peppery flavor contained notes of vinous clove and brown malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

4/30/17. 12oz bottle from ABC. Rich dark amber pour with a nice khaki head. Malty aroma, caramel, some pepper. Malty flavor, caramel, smokey, mild pepper. Reminds of like a peppery doppelbock or something.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head the leaves lots of spotty lace. Nose involves light chocolate reminiscent of tootsie rolls and light vegetal notes. Fairly sweet, somewhat bitter. Lighter bodied, fairly active, slick, with a prominent chile heat that has hints of citrus with the burn. Good idea, but iffy execution. Needs more body, some help on the aroma, and just more cohesion. Welcome to Indiana, 5 Rabbit.

Light umber color with a moderate light tan colored head. I like the aromas… nice toasted malt, toasted rye bread and hints of peppers and light fruit. A light amber flavor with a hint of chilies. Finish has a green pepper linger. This would be one to boil the sausages in. 3/12

12 ounce bottle. Not highly carbonated. Taste some pepper and reminds me of a mild stout. Brown in color with a beige head this is a pretty smooth ale. Overall this is above average in style and pretty drinkable.

Draft at MOTR Pub on September 24, 2016. Almost opaque dark brown hue, nice malty nose with some fruit character, light body, nice malty flavor with fruit and some hot spiciness which isn’t overdone. Good brew.

2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable (base style: 19A American Amber Ale)

AROMA: Moderately sweet sherry-like scent with notes of milk chocolate and dark malt. No pepper aroma. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Extremely dark mahogany to brown proper. Small tan foam mostly dissipates. No lacing. 1/3

FLAVOR: Sweet palette with a caramel/toffee/peanut brittle base and a sherry-like flavor in the background (oxidized). Peppers emerge on the very finish and leave a gentle warming sensation in the throat. No distinct hop presence. Malts are generally dark but no distinctiveness.12/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; low carbonation. Texture feels flat and slightly watery. Clean aftertaste is nice. Much too light for 6.4%. 2/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: While not bad-tasting, there isn’t much here to like. A fresh bottle is probably a completely different brew. 4/10

TOTAL SCORE: 26/50

Deep nutty Amber hue with a thin light beige head that gives a nice earthy and slightly caramelly nose with a hint of peppery tones. Crisp and mellow flavor that’s smooth and caramelly, a touch leafy and earthy, just a whisper of pepper head and a full bready/toast finish.

Dark brown coloured body with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramelised sugars, earth, toffee and a touch of light chiles as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong roasted flavours of malt, sugar and a bit of grain along with some very subdued and stale hop flavours and the slightest bit of heat noticeable. Aftertaste shows some grain, toffee, light lactose and a hint of coffee bitterness as well. Overall, not a horrible beer, and while not a great option given Chicago’s offerings, not as bad as other 5 Rabbit beers I’ve had. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Chicago (Streeterville location), Illinois on 13-Nov-2015 for US$2,49 sampled in my hotel in Streeterville, Chicago on 15-November-2015.

Pours a cloudy brown with nearly no head. Very unassuming nose. Faint notes of chocolate syrup and British porter. Soft with mild carbonation burn. Subtle astringency. Strong horehound hard candy flavor throughout. Mild undertone of chocolate. A bit of a metallic note.
