COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian Strong Golden Ale, brewed with hibiscus flowers, ginger, thai palm sugar and local Chicago honey. Huitzi is a winter beer that doesnt wallow in the dark cold days of this season. Like its namesake, the Aztec hummingbird god Huitzilopoctli who smashed the winter to allow the sun to return, Huitzi looks forward to the brighter promise of spring. We think of it as a winter cooler. As all our creations, this beer has its own Latin twist as it is brewed with flor de jamaica (hibiscus flower). The idea for this beer came when thinking about food and family gatherings. In Latin America, all family gatherings have something in common, aguas frescas. An agua fresca is fresh fruit or flowers diluted in water and (sometimes) sweetened. They are typically served at lunchtime in almost every restaurant in Mexico and Central America. The term means fresh water and their creativity and simplicity appeals to us. Aguas frescas represent a time with family, colleagues or friends as they gather and share a meal. A time to disconnect from the daily routine and enjoy food and conversation.

Tall bottle shared at the Poles party, thanks Steve! It poured a hazy amber colour with sudsy white foam, lasting with lace. Heavy maltbill, fermented in such away that it remains sticky sweet, full-bodied, heavy. Flowery, perfumey, some from the hops, some from the hibiscus flowers and whatever the hell else. Very boozy, lots of spicy Belgian yeast phenols. Too much going on for me, just couldnt enjoy it.

Bomber thanks to one of the cousins from the barrio - nose is sour berries. Tastes like currants to me. Interesting and not anything like a strong Belgian. Definite wheat finish akin to cardboard.

Aroma is fruit juice, citrus and grapes. The flavor is grapes/white grapes, malts, fruit, mild sweetness and a simple Belgian yeast/very lightly spiced finish.

Sampled while visiting IL in June, 2014. Golden pour with a small off-white head, mild lacing. Belgian yeast spice on the aroma, fruity esters, mild floral honey aspect. Lightly sweet flavor, crisp, floral honey, yeast spice, fruity. Not bad.

Poured from bottle, pours a clear gold with a thin head, the aroma is of some spices mixed in with a sweetness of honey and a slight fruit touch, the flavor has a yeasty front end with a sweet finish and a touch of fruit, interesting.

Poured from a coupla champagne bottle bombers into a pint glass. Pours a red hazy brown with about a finger of head. Sweet on top of sweet, works well with spicy food, can actually go extra hot if you are washing it down with this one. Very high alcohol points are cancelled out by price.

Caramel /amber in colour with a creamy pale head. Aroma is hibiscus, rose, honey, wild flowers. Medium-full bodied, sticky mouthfeel, very sweet on the palate, cloying floral finish. Flavours are honey, caramel, hibiscus, rose, hint of ginger. Little too sweet, could use some balance.

Draft. Amber color. Brilliant e of cinnamon, hibiscus and ginger. Flavor follows with a sticky and almost stale but dry finish. Also some Latin coffee and cocoa element In there. Has some inconsistency but I enjoy the spice integration.
