On tap at State & Lake @ the Wit, Dec. 23. 10 oz. stemmed glass for $7. Hazy brown body, with a thin lace around the edge. Smell carries light, bready malts and a slight hint of lemongrass. Taste is spritzy and malty. I think there’s a tiny bit of chile pepper as a part of the bitterness. Drinks kind of like a Belgian tripel. Subtle savory clues, like beef stock and stone fruit compote. Good umami aftertaste, with a bit of yeast around my soft palate. Alcohol is almost nowhere in the taste, but I am starting to feel my toes tinkle. On tap at Hopleaf. Pours a cloudy, glowing red-orange colored body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is pretty earthy and fruity with a kumquat tropical fruitiness. Some apricots, a bit of a zesty citrus, Belgian yeast, and a lightly sweetened, smooth and somewhat bready caramel malt sweetness. The flavor is similar. Fruity up front with some Belgian yeast, apricots, earth, an herbal essence, and a light malt sweetness. Touches of bread, some zesty citruses, and more kumquat tropical fruits before this finishes smooth and clean with a light bitterness. Lots of fruits and earth with a light caramel note before leaving a fairly lengthy aftertaste. Medium, smooth body that is somewhat chewy at times with a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, another interesting, but well balanced beer from these guys. The fruitiness from the hops goes well with the yeast and the earthiness from the mushrooms isn’t too weird. Draft at Maria’s, pours bright reddish gold with white head. Aroma is earthy seemingly from the fungus, spicy clove phenols dominate, some bubblegum, alcohol, and plum raisins. flavors are sweet beady malts, spicy clove phenols, big malt character with some caramel, raisin, and a tad toasty. Big body, bit syrupy. Finish is spicy and fairly dry. This one walks the line almost falling over at times but eventually ends held together and it all works. on tap @ farmhousechicago. my friend turned up his nose, but i liked it. wouldn’t have been able to tell you it had mushrooms in it, though. sweet more than dry, if you can say that about beer.

Thanks to Jennifer for sharing!! Pours a hazy reddish gold color with a small tan head. The aroma is fruit, savory elements, wet grain. The taste is earthy, savory, sweet fruit, caramel malt then ending tart and slightly sour. The body is medium and a bit chewy with fine carbonation.
