A beer that captures the summer fun of Paletas, the Spanish word for "popsicles". Brewed with Brazilian guava, pink peppercorn, tarragon and orange blossom water, this sessionable wheat beer is a more sophisticated alternative to shandies and radlers.

This watermelon beer is pink in color and not much melon aroma. A smooth beer has a little bit of a watermelon flavor I feel this beer is just above average and very drinkable on hot summer day like today. Pint at winking lizard peninsula ohio usa

End of the keg and first of the keg. Filtered kind of thin watermelon body. Kind of more naturalish than most things I suppose. Medium bodied. Easy going. Mild. OK.

Draft on tap at the brewery / tap room (Bedford Park, IL). Pours a hazy ruby red hue, a bit of nice glow, firmer haze almost like cranberry juice. A bit fiery and nice glow with lively bubbles, well dressed carbonation and frothy whitish bubbly head atop. A mellow layer dies down, laces small as a skant ring. Aromas are a bit fruity, watermelon and berry meet earth, cool cucumber and a bit of spiciness. Nice watermelon juice (a unique flavor profile in and of itself) subtle bready malts, sweetness beneath. Initial is lighter bodied, green watermelon rind and earth, cool water and that cucumber like appeal. Mellow sweetness, a bit of fuzziness and carbonation attack the palate. Gentle sweetness, earth, that cucumber/green cool water earthiness hit. Refreshing, cool, and sessionable. The sweetness stays at bay, a bit spritzy and bubbly, fuzziness into the backend with that earthy cool fruit appeal. As watermelon is more unique, it’s fun to see them get some life out of this one. It always seems like a lot of watermelon is required to get the flavor going but this seems like they balanced it well. A bit of yeastiness, carbonation as we trail out. Lingering subtle sweetness, that earthy, cool watermelon appeal. An interesting and crushable version here. Never gets too sweet or difficult to handle, appropriate watermelon pulpy essence, cool and more refreshing. Tasty.

Pours a very cloudy orange-ish gold with a white head that lasts. The head leaves behind thick sheets of lacing. The aroma has a strong watermelon note with a hint of banana to it, probably from the wheat beer underneath. The flavor starts with a strong hit of watermelon followed by a sweet wheat backing. The finish is mild and sweet with no hops bitterness.

This was bought on a whim and while not the most interesting fruit beer I could see how it would make for a refreshing session. There is not much depth present but for a light summery beer it drinks well. I would give 5 Rabbit a shot again with lowered expectations.

Aroma / Appearance - A fluid pinkish base sparkles with a light white head. Watermelon dominates a nose that also contains clean white hops and the scent of early fall. It’s not strong at all and fades quickly.

Flavor / Palate - Watermelon is very strong but after a sip or two it is possible to pick up hints of malt and hops underneath. A summery mouthfeel refreshes the palate. There is not much depth at all though at 3.5% there is no place to hide it. I’d recommend this as a change of pace if you are tired of big 7% IPAs. Otherwise just up the road from Chicago you can pick up better fruit beers from New Glarus.
