This 500 year old Belgian style wheat beer became nearly extinct until the late 1970’s when Pierre Celis revived a languishing brewery in Hoegaarden and began brewing Witbier again. Ours is a true Wit, brewed with 50% un-malted wheat then delicately spiced at the end of the boil with dried Curacao Bitter Orange Peel, Sweet Orange Peel and Coriander. A slight lactic sourness is induced in secondary fermentation to balance the Wit’s creaminess and make it a tart, smooth, quenching summer brew.

Whata wit. Nose and flavours of pepper, citrus and jerky. So wheaty I want to die. G-rat

This poured a cloudy yellow color with a moderate head. The aroma contains citrus and coriander. The flavor is citrus, cloves, and biscuit. Overall a very nice witbier!

Draft sample at brewpub. Poured hazy golden to yellow color with an average creamy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate yeasty sweet citrus aroma. Medium body with a light sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet spicy finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

Appearance: Pours a lightly hazy, golden-yellow body with a thin, white head. Smell: Delicate wheat nose, very lightly tangy, precedes fruity, slightly sour scents. Particularly distinct are the orange peel and spice notes. Taste: Soft wheat and light pale maltiness with a pinch of table sugar. White peach fruitiness seasoned with coriander. Bitterish Curaçao orange peel taste. Slight perceived sourness. Light, though balancing bitterness. Drying, lightly crisp finish with a lasting spice note. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Ample medium-high carbonation. Drinkability: A good, enjoyable witbier to gulp down on the 5 Seasons outside patio on a sultry summer night.

Hazy and cloudy in the pour, with a small dollop of white head. Nice spicy aroma, that really lingers right on into the flavor, which brings forth clove and coriander, with some banana notes on the tail, slightly astringent alcohol bite in the finish that I was not expecting, but overall nicely balanced. A great patio beer for spring

on tap. Slight haze. Mostly clear golden yellow. Thin fizzy white head. Heavy aroma of orange zest, bananans. Flavors of malted wheat and zest. Very light body left nothing in the finish.

Cybercat (6433) - Georgia, USA - SEP 23, 2007
Color is a somewhat cloudy amber gold with a thick but not persistent head. Aroma is strong, very wheaty and malty, with strong lemon hints. Flavor is rich, wheaty-malty, with some hop edge to it. Refreshing, smooth, this is a great beer for late summer and early fall.

On tap at the brewpub. Very light hazy golden coloring with a small white head. Very heavily citrus aroma. The flavor was dominated by lemon, but there was a good bit of malty mouthfeel here that kind of threw me off. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse.

whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 25, 2005
Clear, lemon yellow body and a pillowy white head. Floral, lime coriander in the aroma with a hint of orange peel and light clove-like phenols. Phenols come through more prominently in the flavor and become a touch too plastic. Dry with moderate bitterness, but the impression is more orange peel than hops. A solid wit and refreshing summer beer.
