Dark, smoky flavor, but not too strong for the style. Fairly high malt level, would definitely revisit this beer.
Draft at the source. Clear amber brown color, light tan head. Aroma of toasted caramel. Taste is lightly burnt caramel. Decent. GTAEgeek (2455) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAR 9, 2015
On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown, with a medium, beige head, and nice lacing. Good nose of black bread, anise, peat, orange zest, cardamom. Sweet, with a light bitterness, and a good savory spice. Medium to heavy body, sticky, and doughy. This is a quality scotch ale, with a nice malty flavor. ej (1330) - Hauglandshella, NORWAY - SEP 4, 2014
Light brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel and malts. Taste is malts driven. Sweet but fairly balanced. Creamy mouthfeel. daknole (11402) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 16, 2014
Deep amber pour. Toffee flavors, oxidized apples, light cocoa, wheat crackers. Leaves something to be desired IMO. jw0406 (1308) - atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 11, 2014
Draft pours a black color with a tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malt, light chocolate, caramel. Medium bodied, very good example of the style

Draft - Toffee sweetness and grain. Dark clear amber with a thin head. Toffee and chocolate with a nice long finish. jbruner (5401) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - DEC 1, 2013
Pours a translucent brown on tap with thin tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is sweet grainy malt masked by a hint of smoke. Taste is smokier, nice balance between the bread, sweetness, and smoke. Slight burn on the way down, good stuff. ibrubeer (416) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - OCT 22, 2013
Very good body. Good color. Very nice malty flavor that is representative of a Scotch Ale. Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 20, 2013
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2013 Brewvival Trip Beer 30. Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear red color with a thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee, toasted malts, earth. The taste is toffee, earth, toasted mats. Medium bodied. chinchill (5340) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 11, 2012
served in a tulip glass at the brewpub. Near black color with a very thin but rather durable tan head thaat leaves nice lacing. Has a subtle dak fruit nose with some grain coming through and giving the aroma of fruity baked bread.
The favor is a bit too sweet; not smoky; hints of wine (rose?), spices and dark fruits. With a bit of warming, the flavor got better. Good carbonation level.
O - a very odd but tasty "Scotch Ale"; similar to what I’d expect from a Belgian brewery making this style of ale. High ABV fairs well in both flavor (blends well) and aroma (largely hidden).
