Very nice hop aroma, but wait, it’s black! Hey, you got chocolate in my peanut butter! It really does work -- there’s quite a bit of IBUs in there, but I’d say the dark roasted flavors are playing lead here. They are the first flavors that hit me and the ones that lingered very nicely. Oh, but there’s the hops on the finish, too. Not for the newbie, but if you want a very well crafted civil union - go get one! SphinxTX (2875) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - APR 12, 2011
On tap. Pours black with rich tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malt and pine. Flavor is much the same and dry. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy body with medium-high carbonation. Over all, very solid brew and the hops do not outshine the dark roastiness. Good stuff! mar (5434) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 25, 2011
Tap at plano gingerman. Black with a khaki head. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, fresh citrusy hops, and a nice fruity backdrop. Perfect on the palate, flavor is roasted malts upfront, big fresh fruity hops, and a toasty finish. Dixonian (1562) - Plano, Texas, USA - MAR 29, 2011
On tap at the Gingerman Plano.
Deep black pour with some bubbly, off-white head. Diggin’ the aroma - nice mix of roasted malt and citrus/pine hops. Very balanced, slight bitterness but very much kept in line by the roasted, smoky malt backbone. Very tasty Black IPA from (512) - those guys continue to impress me. dyetube (1378) - Hurst, Texas, USA - APR 17, 2011
Draft at the Gingerman plano. Pours deep dark red almost black with a medium tan head. The aromas are light chocolate, grass and maybe some bread. The mouthfeel is sticky, dry abs bitter with a heavy body. This was a nice beer. Cheers!

well, 512 in on the black ipa racket, lets see .. . Pours a deep brown with fantastic head, lacing is superb .. . the bastard gave him your home address .. . nice roastiness and a good dose of hops- this is how an american black ale should taste, balanced .. . another winner from 512 .. . My aunt gave me a walkie-talkie for my birthday. She says if I’m good, she’ll
give me the other one next year. kidmartinek (5001) - austin, Texas, USA - APR 2, 2011
Chalky, dark brown color. Nice head that holds the drink. Toasty dark malt and cocoa aromas. Nice full barley and cocoa malt flavors. Fortunately the other hops drown out the nugget and the bitterness is superb and flavorful. Light lacing. Medium-heavy body and creamy mouthfeel. Chalky finish. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - APR 16, 2011
What amazing lacing on this beer... solid, tall, stretches straight to the top of this glass. Something’s holding it up, and it’s good. Black in color with a light/medium brown head. Roasted malt dominates the aroma, but the hops do manage balance the sweetness of the malts. It’s a delight in the mouth, with hops punching through the roasted malt just right. The finish almost reminds me of a stout, with really no trace of hops at this point. Weighted more like a porter,m but much easier to drink. When you want the feel of an IPA, but have a craving for malts, this is an excellent option. Very well brewed - a solid beer. KAggie97 (3529) - Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA - NOV 21, 2011

Pours a deep, deep brown with a nice, off-white head and an aroma of roasty, light chocolate malt and roasted grapefruit. Flavor is aggressive roasted chocolate and nuts with grapefruit syrup. Average mouthfeel. Great beer.
On tap at the brewery during RBWG
Dark brown with a nice sized dark tan head and good lacing. Lots of roasted malts, pine, chocolate and grapefruit. A nice Bipa.
