That’s right, the first seasonal offering (of many to come ) from (512) Brewing Company was brewed this week. It’s a Robust Porter brewed with Pecans. Look for this beer to be released sometime in late October - We can’t release it until there’s at least a hint of cool weather in the air! This nearly black Porter is made with US 2-row and Crystal malts along with Baird’s Chocolate and Black malts. Mild smooth hop bitterness is contrasted with sharp black malt bitterness. It has a full body and malty sweetness balanced with subtle pecan aroma and flavor from locally grown pecans. Yet another true Austin original!

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2012 Location: Draft at Ginger Man- Austin, 2/17/12

Aroma: This one has a lot of roasted malts, plus some caramel and cocoa on the nose
Appearance: This one is a brown colored beer with a small light brown head
Flavor: The flavor is roasty and malty, not super sweet, with minimal bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly full on this one, and it has a dry, roasty mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: This is a solid roasted porter, I didn’t get a ton of pecan presence, I mostly got dry/roasty malts, but I still enjoyed it.

A nicely blended Porter. I understand the high ratings. Full body with notes of vanilla, smoke, roasted malt, chocolate and dry dark malty coffee finish. I didn’t notice the pecan too much, but the hint of nut was apparent.

Draft at Fort Worth Flying Saucer. First 512 beer and wow was this nice. Big, bold porter that honestly seemed barrel aged: notes of coffee, vanilla and booze. Just a hint of the pecan nuttiness. Really nice surprise.

Nitro tap. Pours dark brown/black with abundant creamy tan head. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate aroma with a hint of pecan. Taste notes of coffee, chocolate with only the slightest hint of pecans. Full rich body. Well balanced bitterness. Wish the pecans were more prominent.

On tap at The Ginger Man Ft. Worth. Pours Dark Brown with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, and some chocolate. Compared to a beer like Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan, I don’t get much pecan, but it is a nice typical porter flavor,

Delirium (669) - Falmouth, Cornwall, ENGLAND - DEC 29, 2011
Draught. Pours dark brown-black with a small off-white head. Aroma is roasty and ashy, with just the barest hint of pecans. Flavor is similar, with the pecans coming in a little more in the finish. Well done; it’s mostly a roasty porter with the pecans adding an extra twist, but doesn’t go overboard like some of the examples that seem to just dump in a pile of nut extract.

On tap at The holy Grail..Apperance is a dark brown, with a light tan head, the smell is caramel and pecans with malt taste, palate is chocolate and pecans malts, This is a very easy drinking beer with nice flavor profile i am glad to have beer like this brewed in Texas, This is the best ive had from 512, and cant wait to get my hands on some more

GABF 2011. Black with a small tan head. Big aroma of chocolate malt, roasted pecans, and a weird grassy hop tone thrown in...still smells great. Nice chocolaty pecan taste, with some toasty grains. Body is a little light though, and isn’t as sweet as I feel it should be.
