India Pale Ale is an English beer style that originates from the British colonial period. This beer was hopped extra strong to survive the long sea voyage to India well, as hop was seen as particularly rich in natural preserving agents. In addition, the beer had been brewed with a higher original gravity to attract more alcohol, which of course had a preserving effect as well. Today, India Pale Ales, also called IPAs are not that strong anymore (usually 12.5° to 17° original gravity), but they are still about 5 times as much hopped. IPAs should not only taste but bitter, but have the rounded smell and aromatic taste of hops. To achieve the characteristic taste of the 7 Stern IPA, we only use American hops that give our beer its distinctive taste.

On tap at the brewery. Pours out a dark golden copper topped with a sand head. Nose is light citrus some light malts and a little pine. Taste is more of the light hops a mellow malt bill and a little bitterness on the end.

On tap at 7 Stern, Vienna, Austria. February 2014. Shared with lovely Anja, Dražen, Pero and others! Hazy amber, average frothy off-white head. Fruity hops and candy. Strangely sweet with some fake bitterness. Medium body, soft carbonation, lingering finish. This is not really an IPA.

Aroma: fruity esters, sugary-sweet malt. Taste: slightly sweet with citrus, yeast, average.

bottle, bought at the Bierautomat at the brewpub. Hazy orange golden, mid-sized white head. Malty base with good hoppy flavour, loads of tropical fruits.

TimE (6259) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 29, 2015
had a brilliant citrusy nose, a clean malty palate supported by juicy hops and a moderate, but certainly not overwhelming finish. This could easily compete with anything in the PNW and this beer really blew me away (at least when I tried it in 2004)

nazbion (302) - Rio de Janeiro, BRAZIL - APR 25, 2015
Pours dark amber with lasting head. Malty aroma with herbal hops. Taste of caramel malts, guava and mango, medium bitterness. Quite malty for IPA.

500ml bottle. Citric smell, nice foam which last at the end. It’s medium body, half-brown colour. Its taste is citric first than sweet and almost strongly hoppy bitter at last.

Piwo degustowane w lokalu firmowym. Kolor bursztynowy z ładną pianą, która po chwili osadza się ładnie na szkle. Aromat niestety słabo wyczuwalny. Delikatne nuty cytrusowe, wyczuwalna goryczka. Liczyłem na więcej.

Werckmeister (3441) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - JAN 8, 2015
amber / brownish, cloudy color, big white head which evaporates quickly. light malty smell, overall not a lot to smell here, especially not the typical fruit smells. medium body, very slick feeling on the tongue, light peppery notes, very light banana, some hemp / grains, light alcoholic taste, very light / subtle sweetness but not very obvious / well integrated, some grapefruit / other fruits noticable after a bit, light bitter finish, smooth drinking. good but a bit untypical

Pours a dark amber/light brown color, topped with a decent off-white head - very decent retention. Malty aroma with notes of fruits and some nutty notes as well. Some caramel also picked up. Taste is sweet, quite some caramel notes, later on also some fruity notes. Spicy finish. Pretty good.
