For the first time in history I’ve managed to pour a beer that has the Nøgne Ø logo on the label that doesn’t end up with a hazy body. The clear, very dark brown to red body has a large, creamy, eggnog coloured head that is long-lived and laces the glass well. The aroma is intense and delicious, with lots of malty notes but with even more hops. Slightly overripe fruits with a tropical touch, roasted notes, dark caramel, dark chocolate and faint coffee in the back. What a lovely mix of fruits, caramel and chocolate! The taste is moderate sweet and quite heavy bitter. The flavours are strong, and a bit more malt driven than the aroma, with roasted notes and dark caramel in the front and fainter chocolate notes in the back. The fruits are still very present though, and the tropical fruits lingers on in the long-lasting finish, even if they’re rather subdued mid-palate. Finally I get citrus and alcohol. Very close to perfect mouthfeel, with a full body, smooth and oily texture and soft carbonation. So, why isn’t this classified as a BIPA? It has everything I love about that style! Anyway, it’s pretty… wait for it… wait for it… waaaaait for it… awesome.ansalon (3792) - Stockholm, SWEDEN, SWEDEN - JUL 13, 2013

Pours dark amber with a soft tan head. Aroma is caramel, rye bread, walnuts, toffee, figs. Taste is caramel, figs, vanilla, almonds, grass, hay, crystallized malts. Really good! jonnyguns (1105) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2012
UPDATED: FEB 26, 2013 500ml bottle from mane liquor. Very dark in colour. Lots of malts not too hoppy. Very smooth amber ale. Dangerous beer at 9% BeerChaser0078 (909) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 16, 2012
Bottle. Fairly clear but very dark brown pour with a foamt tan head that quickly shrinks to surface cover. Big hoppy aroma has notes of grapefruit, lime, pine, toffee, hazelnuts and pepper. Flavour is still hugely hoppy but it also has a massive malt profile as well; having largely the same characteristics as the aroma but in more balance and abundance the flavour, at this fresh stage anyway, is almost heavy it is so big and rich, although it is still quite pleasant. Full bodied with a slick, oily mouthfeel, lively carbonation and a long bitter finish. Similar to Batch #100 as this is, it is a great brew. Very tasty and surprisingly easy to drink.

Dark berries, soft black chocolate and some tropical fruit in the nose. Good mouth feel here- Very silky. Lowish carbonation. Big dark, wood like characteristic with a touch of cinnamon and toffee malt. Big hops to finish and well rounded. Wouldn’t say it’s a complex beer - but it’s gregarious. Alcohol well masked. Good, bold drinking - Thanks Nate! yngwie (17038) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - AUG 18, 2012
Bottle, at TFODRBSG-12. A clear looking dark brown beer topped by a dense, light beige head leaving some lacings. Lovely hoppyness in the aroma, pine cones, resins and some grapefruit, along with some caramel, roasted notes and malty sweetness. Caramel, some roasted notes and most of all, hops in the flavor. Nice bitterness, as well as pine cones, grapefruit peel and some citrus. Full-bodied. A quite lovely one, certainly one I’d very much like to have more of. 120818 saxo (18208) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - AUG 18, 2012
Bottle @ Summer Gathering, Ulfborg. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are rich hops, roast malt, caramel, flowers and pine. keepersj12 (3114) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - SEP 13, 2012
Very good amber or strong ale, whatever it is it’s good. Pours a muddy brown with a thin head. The aroma is roasted malts with a bit of smoke, some caramel and vanilla. The flavor is similar with the smoke a little more noticeable. Nicely balanced with a good amount of hops. A big beer, not for the timid. ej (1322) - Hauglandshella, NORWAY - NOV 14, 2012
Deep dark amber with a small film og foam. Pine and floralness with hints of grapefruit aroma. Sweet caramel backbone. taste has alot og pine also, but with a nice fruityness from dark fruits like dates and raisins. Caramel body is solid with a good balancing sweetness towards the bitter, piney hops. truly lives up to its name. Full body and medium carbonation.
