COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Grand Cru 2011.
Style: Belgian Quadrupel, aged for 16 months in Pinot Noir Barrels with Brettanomyces and Pediococcus.
Grand Cru started out as The Sultan. When we made this beer last year I filled 8 old Pinot Noir barrels and more or less forgot about it. The native bugs in the barrels kept fermenting the beer, making it slightly sour. To further enhance the funky character, I blended it with 2 barrels of a Flanders Red kinda thing, that has also been fermenting funky for about 18 months.

Sharp sour and yet at the samw time sweet thanks to the sultanas and pinot noir cask. Complex with a strong beautifully balanced quadrupel. So happy to have found the 2011 version. Aged extremely well.

375ml bottle shared. Very excited to find an old bottle of this at the Lumsden, and pretty reasonably priced considering the age. Huge aroma with a bunch of sultanas, cinnamon spiciness, sherry, tartness, cherries and altogether fantastic. Flavour is dried fruit, red wine vinegar, spice, cherries, sultanas. Big tartness, big sweet fruitiness. This is just huge flavour, and theres still all manner of stuff I couldnt pick out. Hugely complex and crazy delicious.

Rating #2180 - 2015.11.17 - Bottle from Master Masons Cellar - 2011 - Dark chestnut coloured pour with a creamy, bubbly tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is predominantly yeast, hint of roast malt and dried pear. Flavour is dried fruit, sourness from the yeast and a lingering bitterness. Lovely quad.

12.7 oz bottle picked up locally from notes. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a large off white head. The aroma and flavor have big dark fruits, some tart character, pinot noir barrel really shows, wood, vinous, Brett, funk, some of the base quad sweetness still shows, caramel, the alcohol remains well hidden but does warm a bit.

Bottle at the brewery with the grandparents. Belgian yeast, dark fermented fruits, Pinot barrel, oak and musty characteristics. Lots of carbonation which is pleasant. Musty barrel sight tartness and while warming some brown ale and oak notes power thru. Vinous. Digging this as it held up well ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
