COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We believe HopWired is the first bottled version of a true new world India Pale Ale made with NZ grown base malt and 100% truly unique NZ hops. We bet youll find nothing else like it on the shelves. Although the malty sweetness is there, this beer is all about the hops. Unlike an American I.P.A. which will mainly hit you with a grapefruity-citrus flavour and aroma, the unique NZ hops used in HopWired are more like a tropical punchbowl: Passion fruit, lime, oranges and Sauvignon Blanc to name but a few. A local Marlborough winemaker said it smelled like gooseberries... Gooseberries? Who has ever smelled a gooseberry?? Decide for yourself or just enjoy it without further complications. Cheers!

A rate??? Getting rare so it seems. Amber and clear with a nice off white head a bit foamy as well and hat foam sticks to the glass well. The smell is simply amazing. For once I read the description - gooseberries are a maybe as I actually know what they smell like - strange - i would have never thought of that though. Unknown fruity tropical nose, pan fried popcorn, a cross between a lemon and an unripe banana, salted peanut shells - none of this sounds good at all but it is excellent and unique without being too far out there. The taste is stellar - mystery everything but an IPA without question. Tropical things and pungent things and a misleading level of bitterness, yellow citrus, sweetness is wonderful, I cant really describe this properly. Coming back to this beer out of a room with other dominant aromas I sure got hit up with a lot of sharp citrus and not a lot of the crap that I came up with early on. Amble carbonation and I can say that my willingness to by another has faded. Only the curiosity of the intriguing qualities will nibble away at me. If Im not mistaken this bottle was 9.50$ - hard to go back to that unless this contains water from the fountain of youth.

A Danish brewer moves to New Zealand and this is what we get? More, please. What first caught me was the aroma. My nose wasnt up to the rim and already, what came to mind were kind of a grilled, tropical fruitiness. I liked it. I like the mouthfeel: Theres this deep liveliness about it, simultaneously airy and creamy. This adds to the flavor in a way that reminds me of a good lemon meringue. You know how it feels when you take the fork from the very top and through it all, to the plate... Its all there. Whats also great is that the flavor reflects the aroma so much that I can taste the ale right before it hits my tongue. This is really good.

Bottle to oversized snifter. Looks good; a malty amber with low carbonation and resinous lacing. Smells very good; citrus hops and malt. Tastes solid; not as good as it smells though. Nice balance of hops and malt. Nice on the palate too. A little pricey for a 500 ml bottle, but tasty!

Bottled. Amber colour with a small slightly off-white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is peach, tropical fruits, some slight berries and mild caramel notes as well. Flavour is resiny, fruity, citrus, some slight wooden and spicy notes as well. Bigtime fruity and slightly toffeeish finish. Wellbalanced, and actually quite a pleasant IPA.

500 ml bottle purchased at Artisan Fine Wine Suppliers in Auckland, NZ last month while on holiday there. Pours a clear gold-amber color with two fingers of off-white foam. Holy crap...the aroma really leaps out of the glass with tropical fruit (mango, papaya, passion fruit) that is sticky and overripe. The aroma also includes some peach and honey-caramel notes. Flavor has lots more overripe tropical fruit notes but is less bright than the nose. Passion fruit is the real stand-out, but the flavor also has notes of mellow citrus (earthy orange and limes), herbs, berries, and creamy-honey maltiness. Though the hops are up front, this is actually a very well-balanced and not particularly bitter IPA. I have to say that these New Zealand hops are great and I hope to see them used more by American brewers. Of course, locally in San Diego we have Alpines Nelson and Stone recently had Ruination double dry-hopped with Motueka and Pacific Jade hops for growler fills. Would love to see more like this. 500ml brown bottle. Pours out clear and golden, very large white head, creamy and solid. Nice lacing. Nose has pine notes, some tropical NZ hops, and sharp grapefruit. Taste - big hops, got a mostly grapefruity attack at first with some pine then a background tropical fruitiness. Fruitiness became much more pronounced on the second half of the bottle. Slightly floral and fruity - hints of grape. Finish has more of the fruity floral hop that lingers, and a nice cutting late grapefruit attack in the throat. Medium body, great fine pointed carbonation. Good example of a NZ hopped IPA. Good bitterness and fruity hops, enjoyable and light enough to have more than one...

500mL bottle to restaurant water glass Heavy aromas of sweet tropical fruits. I get papaya, lychee, and caramel. Pouts a clear amber with small long lasting head. Tastes of papaya with the flavour of black pepper without the mouthfeel/spicyness ends with bitterness. Low carbonation makes the mouthfeel unexciting.

Bottle - Pine, grapefruit and sweet fruits on the nose. Pale clear amber with thin persistent head. Crazy grapefruit bitterness with the sweetness just coming through at the end.
