viscous and black as the inside of a malayan tapir. cool creamy tan head with bubbles that sink. serious pipe tobacco and leather armchair sort of aroma (willamette in there) with a fair bit of hop presence. lovely rich and malty body with some fruity new world hop flavours and toasty charcoal. bitter and hoppy. intense and rich stuff, with care taken to layer the flavours - very nice. a bit too much grapefruit from the hops for my liking - not a fan of grapefruit in my stouts - i know im in a minority there.

Look: Opaque deep blackish brownOne-quarter finger head with residual soapy dark beige foam which fades in 40 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with zero carbonation.
Aroma: Very fragrant full dark malt, with moderate roastyness, rich chocolate, coffee, strong sweet caramel, strong sticky toffee, heavy cream, alcohol, perfume, floral, sugar, spices, biscuits and light grass. Smells like a yummy dessert!
Taste: Strong sweet rich dark malt, with strong roastyness, very strong dark chocolate, very strong roasted coffee beans, strong burnt toast, caramel, sticky toffee, alcohol, strong liquorices, floral, strong molasses, spices, herbs, strong earth, biscuits, lemon, strong bitter hops and grass. Some characters!
Body: Full body. Quite oily palate.
Mouth Feel: Rich dark maltyness in a thick background. Incredibly roasty from start to finish - malt, chocolate, coffee beans and burnt toast - all got very favorable roasted treatment at the same time. How about that! Flowery with strong but agreeable sweetness, spicy herbal earthy with lemon to round. Wild and exciting!
Alcohol: the 10.5% booze is notable but not domineering at all, rather it's the liquorices which contributed a lot to the bitterness. A walk for a RIS. Good!
Hoppiness: Floral, spices and light grass in nose. Herbs, spices, floral, strong earth, lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness - burnt malt, liquorices and hops - is very strong for a lasting, very high astringent sweet-bitter roasty malty finish.
After Taste: Fairly Dry. Chocolatey coffee and very bitter to mouth.
Comments: For a pure RIS, this one excels in addictive, creamy chocolate dessert aroma, and the taste is decisively full-blown roast coffee and dark chocolate whichis intense but balance the sweetness nicely, with a very manageable booze. Just as good as Founders Imperial Stout but its own unique beasty manner. A must buy!
Pours black and thick with creamy head. Aroma is chocolate with a hint of vanilla and roast. Taste is bitter chocolate, moving to add sweetness. Finishes smooth and with a vanilla flavor. Pitch black color with mocha head. Aroma has dark fruits and some astringent roasted malt notes. Taste has milk chocolate, caramel, toasted malt, some coffee bitterness on the finish, really well balanced overall. Medium to full bodied, smooth mouthfeel. Really well made, easy drinking imperial stout.

Pours completely black with a dark tan, caramel head. Aroma is light spice, cinnamon, alcohol, vanilla. Taste is sweet upfront, vanilla, leading to notes of chocolate, dark roast, finishing with a nice bitterness in the end that lingers for a little. Medium carbonation, full bodied. Very nice. Jet black pour with thin espresso head. Nice lacing. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, cocoa beans, residues of black pepper and some vanilla. Taste is upfront bittery and ashy in equal ratios, with the ash prevailing towards the end. Notes of coffee grounds, dark chocolate and cocoa. Where is the booze? UPDATED: SEP 16, 2017 Big rasin currant rum toasty roasty tar aroma with big frothy tar head and inky appearance. Looks perfect, tastes great too. Nice lacing. Silky smooth. Full tar, rum and raisin, coca and coffee mocha flavours. Somewhat smokey with imagery of back room bar. Great bitterness thoughout and also right to the end. Full flavour. Outstanding. UPDATED: SEP 12, 2017 Pours a deep black. Soft caramel head. Disipates quickly. The aroma has deeply roasted routes, roasted coffee beans and malt. First taste is almost salty like Marmite, helped along by the prominent alcohol volume. Later the palete adjusts to pick up smooth bitter chocolate notes that linger well after the bottle is finished.
