My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak
IBU - 75
SRM - 15

12oz bottle pours a brown color without any head. Very low carbonation. Lots of sticky malt sweetness. A bit of alcohol harshness. Mild oakiness.

Bottle @ home. Brown color with no head. Smells malty, roasty, some hop and barley wine. Smells alchohol, barley wine, roasty, dark malts, hops, almond, sweet, nice. Taste is the same.

Bottle @ home. Brown colour with no real head. Smells barley wine, roasty, dark malts, hops, almond, sweet, nice. Taste is the same as smell with a touch of alcohol. Very nice. Full body, soft carbo.

Big on everything, great with a hearty meal. Wood and smokey flavours take a nice back seat. Big malt

A: barrel, wood, plum. M: silky, tons of barrel notes, butter, diacetyl, vanilla, booze and a hint of smoke that’s definitely present O: very smooth, booze isn’t very powerful considering, even when warm. I can’t wait to see how this aged. Beautiful

Sample at the Badge-Whore Bowl (OSU vs AL) tasting on 01/01/2015. Clear amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of smoked malt, hops and oak. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, dark fruit and oak. The finish is smoky with a fruity and malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottled 330ml. -Courtesy of hrabren, shared with him and others. Darker amber coloured, medium sized pale beige head, hint of wood in the nose. Sweet malty, caramel, alcohol and mild spicy with notes of wood and dried fruits. Mild peaty notes in the finish. Good brew but too expensive (14€ small bottle).

Bottle. Strong overripe date nose....hmmm. Medium amber/orange color. Harsh ripe frit from the get go.... and not much else. Medium body. Well... not sure what went wrong with this one.

Pinball (12715) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 29, 2014
bottle. clear amber brown, smooth light brown head. seriously dark for an ipa style ale. aroma is malts, caramel, bitter hops, candi sugar. flavor is roasted malts, bitter hops, wood, licorice, smoked notes from the manuka. Pretty intesresting brew, does not resemble anything else i’ve tasted for a long while.

Huge thanks to Hrabren for sharing this with us! Poured an amber-red body with a tiny off white head. Yoghurty, slightly peaty, heavily malty creamy aroma. Taste... Caramel, vague peat, light bitterness, vague alcohol. Finishes on a medium bitter note. Tasty but not that thrilling.
