My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak

Buongiorgio00 (951) - - DEC 23, 2014
Birra intensa che colpisce subito con una nota affumicata e morbida che poi volge a una profonda esplosione di caramello, ammorbidito dalle note legnose e leggermente torbate e balsamiche dell’invecchiamento.

Appearance is somewhat dodgy with mead-like copper color and almost no head. Aroma has a lot of liquorice, at least at a cold temperature. Taste is has a in-your-face type of feel. Palate is heavy but the absent of alcohol is a good thing. A very good beer but not really my cup of tea.

Bottle at BrewDog Bristol on 23 Nov. Poured a clear amber, with a dense off white head. Aroma of raisins, figs, caramel and grain. More dried fruit in the flavour, with spice and burnt sugar. Finish was malt, toffee, herbal notes and molasses.

RexTalionis (3832) - FINLAND - NOV 3, 2014
Bottle. Pours darker brown in color with a tan head. Bit of smoke, wood and butterscotch in aroma with a hefty load of fruityness backing it up. Bit on the sweeter side in taste with some notes of vanilla and smokyness too. Notes of honey and dark syrup later on, sweet maltyness too. Quite filling, with some vinous notes in the end.

Countbeer (6589) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - OCT 15, 2014
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Small somewhat thicker creamy beige head. Hazy warm red colored body. Aromas of malts, some dust, light fruity, light vinous, some sweets and light soap. Mostly a malty vinous sticky and light dusty aroma. Flavour is malty, bitter, some light fruity tones, some yeast, light wood, light vinous ish tones... Aftertate is malty, bitter, some old wood, some porridge, light dry, bit towards a nasty bitter tone. Low carbo, close to silky mouthfeel, more than medium bodied and a light sticky good bitter texture. Too much (nasty) malts and (nasty) wood tones that dominates the flavour and aftertaste, unfortunately! Damn, this beer gets worse as worse with every sip! Unbalanced with dirty malts, woods and bitters. Ugh...

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy woody caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty spicy woody dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish malty woody dark fruit and caramel finish.

ciaranc (1306) - Dublin, IRELAND - AUG 16, 2014
330 ml bottle from drinkstore. Really deep amber in colour, really opaque, thing off white head, doesn’t last, great lacing. Nose is dark fruits cherries, raisins, oak, port notes, rich fruity esters, whiskey notes too. Intense flavour of dark rich fruits, more port wine, reminiscent of an aged whisky. Huge body, big syrupy mouthfeel, minimal carbonation bit it’s there. Long complex finish with a touch of bitterness to offset the dark fruits. Excellent.
