COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
My idea of a strong ale was brewed with loads of malt, hops, jaggery and a touch of manuka smoke.
It was fermented with a clean ale yeast to let the ingredients speak for themselves without getting interrupted by too many esters.
After all that it was aged for 5 months on American oak, then refermented in the bottle.
Cheers – Søren Eriksen – Brewer
Hops - Pacific Jade, Chinook
Malt - Pale Ale, Munich, Special B
Yeast - US-05
Other - Manuka Smoke, Jaggery (raw sugar) and American Oak
IBU - 75
SRM - 15

Cantabrian (1170) - Christchurch NZ, now Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 1, 2013
This was a such a lovely treat from Jimthechap. The beer pours dark reddish copper, very crystal translucid, raising incredible aromas of a malt base, of course, but with plenty of cloying sweet treats such as honey and maple syrup. There is a peaty flavour to it, actually running just below the main alcohol vein. Peat and whisky on the flavours, above a vast malty bed. The beer feels a bit resinous, quite nice. There’s only the whisky element to stop one from pillaging this bottle more at ease. I would have called it a Barley Wine, but perhaps I do not know enough of both sytles.

marcus (10889) - Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 24, 2013
Bottle from Healthy Spirits. Pours murky copper with a rich beige head and a toffee and candy aroma. There is a full-bodied dark malt flavor complemented by a very nice hop profile that meshes well with the malt. Nicely bitter oak finish.

A great beer, not said lightly. Balanced, complex and dissolves in the mouth. End of evening beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Clear ruby with thin ivory head. Aroma: Woody, smoky, resinous, musky, treacle, caramel and liquorice. Taste: Medium bitterness and sweetness with low sourness. Palate: Thick smooth texture, medium body, low carbonation, lingering dry, burnt caramel/toffee/treacle bitter/sweet finish with musky liquorice and a slight alcohol warmth. Comments: Lovely.

skortila (6014) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - JUN 15, 2014
Bottled. Full 33cl sample. The aroma has raisins, figs, caramel, piney hops. Clear, brown coloured beer with not much head. Initially off-white medium. The taste is moderate sweet and moderate bitter. There are molasses, raisins, resin, figs, caramel. Pretty nice. But definately not worth the price. 8 Wired is pretty expensive in Holland.

Beese (3305) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 30, 2014
Bottle at BrewDog Bristol on 23 Nov. Poured a clear amber, with a dense off white head. Aroma of raisins, figs, caramel and grain. More dried fruit in the flavour, with spice and burnt sugar. Finish was malt, toffee, herbal notes and molasses.

MarcoDL (5478) - NETHERLANDS - AUG 23, 2015
Bottle. Dark bronze color. Nice aroma of smoked ham, malt, caramel, vanilla and oak. Taste is diverse, with oaky vanilla, smoked ham, rauchmalt, soft red fruit and some coffee bitter in the finish. Rich and mighty beer indeed, creative as well. Very good.

Bottle. Nice clear amber colour. Big and boozy on the nose. Burnt caramel type flavours with a heap of bitterness. Great beer if you like strong, bitter beers.
