COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!” Brewed at Renaissance Brewery until 2017

lusikka (7819) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 4, 2012
500 ml bottle.
Pours a brown amber colour with a white head. Aroma of toasted malts, nuts, perfume and grassy hops. Flavour of toasted malts, grassy hops, floral notes and nuts. Some perfumic notes as well. Medium bodied, rough mouthfeel and high carbonation. Finishes very bitter, grassy and musty. Has some off-flavours I think, but not bad.

50 cl bottle @ home. Batch #53: BBE 12/2012
Looks and smells like an amber ale. Aroma is slightly sweet with resin, some fruits and hints of vanilla. Flavour is hoppy with resin, some spices and hints of vegetables. Very foamy palate. Some bready malt does occur as the overwhelming CO2 gets out of the way.

Indeed this is unlike any Brown Ale I’ve had as this feels no Brown Ale at all. I’d call this an Amber Ale.

50 cl bottle. BBE 12/2012. Batch #53.
Pours clear mahogany color with a huge foamy head. Aroma of fruits, malts, caramel notes and some hops. Flavor of bitter hops, some hops, harsh bitter malts, caramel notes and some spice notes. As the most of the carbonation disappears, some bready notes appear. A bit too harsh bitter palate. Lots of CO2. Not my cup of ..beer.

The aroma is light with toasted malt, soapy hops, and a slight sourness that turns earthy. The appearance is brown with a huge foamy head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall I won’t lie to you it’s a little disappointing but drinkable.

500ml bottle. Pours a deep mahogany brown with a large tan head. Good lacing and head retention throughout. Aroma of roasted caramel malt, dates, walnuts fill the senses. Taste is of dark toasted caramel malt, brown sugar, dark dried fruit, dates, with some nice walnut flavor and earthy hops. Palate is a well balanced combination of sweetness and bitterness with a slightly sticky medium body. Finishes with some sweet roasted caramel malt, a bit of brown sugar, dried fruits with some good earthy hops for balance, ending has a lingering roasty nutty walnut flavor. Overall an excellent flavorful, and tasty well balance brew. Very nice.

Huge, very fine-bubbled yellow beer, fed by very finely & lively carbonated opaque brown beer; shards of lace. Very grapey hops mixing with good roasted chocolate to make an appealing dessert’ aroma. Hessian sacks, dusty hopbales. Bitter-hoppy-chocolate, Mousse au Chocolat . Touch of something fruity - kiwifruit or passionfruit, lending even some fruity sweetness warming up. Slightly soapy retronasal. On the verge of overcarbonated, fizzy. Medium bodied. Very good, appetizing beer. But, playing advocated of the devil, it is A (quite good) brown-coloured ale. It is not Brown Ale, if you catch my drift...

Brown color. Medium-sized khaki head. Little lacing. Hoppy aroma. Some malt notes. Taste is malty with a nice hop presence. A little malt sweetness and a nice bitterness to balance it out. A little thinner than imagined, but overall decent.
