”Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesn’t cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say ’golden’?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? We’ll let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, we’d say it’s REWIRED. Cheers!”

Bottle. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas are nutty with biscuit and a light smokiness. Weetabix with bready yeast and cream. Milk chocolate with oats and toffee. Flavours are sweet toffee and chocolate with earthy hops. Bready yeast with toffee and some light metal. Spicy and hoppy on the finish. Well balanced. Good.

A little disappointed here. Poured at a good temperature, with a smallish, light tan head that slowly settled to a light cover and some lace. Color is a clear mahoganey with no bubble trails. Aroma is malt, hop, resin, a bit of fruit. Flavor’s like nose, fairly dry, some hop bitter and significant carbonic tang. Body is ok, ditto carbonation. Finish is like flavor, kind of long, and not that great. This is more like an American Pale Ale that had second thoughts and tried to be a brown, without really pulling it off. Or doing well at either. This is American Brown Ale. Tend to like the more traditional browns, myself.

Bottle. Dark amber. Half finger foam. Faint caramel aromas. Sharp bitterness blended with some acid maybe from the malt! Dry finish. Not the Best from this excellent brewer.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Oluttupa Viisi Penniä, 20120606) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was quite large and lightly brown. Aroma had mango, citricness and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, pine, roaste malts, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was almost burnt and quite bitter. Aroma was better than taste which was a bit musty.

[email protected] Hunters, Pori. Very deep ruby red colour, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, fruits, earth and some strange yeastyness. Also mild raisins. Flavour is mild roasted malts, big time raisins, some yeast, bitterness and mild sweet malts. Good bitter finish.

500 ml bottle. Deep reddish body with a small, dense beige head. Moderate aroma of malt and light roasted caramel. Flavor is nice malty with caramel and hops and hint of chocolate. Balanced and smooth, quite tasty. Fine aftertaste.

Clear very dark ruby amber with a long-lasting ivory head and heavy streaks of lace. Strong roasted caramel malt with a nice bittering in the finish. In spite of the fact it is somewhat simplistic, this is a satisfying, easy-to-drink brew. Full-bodied, clean...recommended.

Bottled 500ml (Beer Hunters)
Dark brown color, good beige head. Vegetables, caramel, light woody hoppyness. Light to medium-bodied. Grassy hoppy bitterness, vegetables and caramel. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Just arrived to Finland and doesn’t taste very fresh.

TEJA (3010) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 22, 2012
Bottle chaired by omhper, thanks. Lasting dark beige / light brown head. Brown color. Chocolate aroma and fresh hops. Smooth malty taste with a small tart finnish. Medium body. A good brown ale.

16oz bottle from New Zealand, damn dogg! Far away place if there ever was one, other than like Pluto or something. Dark brown in color with a finger width of tan head and some lacing. Nice aroma, nutty and roasty with coffee notes. The flavor is definitely to the roasty and bitter side of the style. Coffee grounds and just a mild nuttiness. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated. A great brown ale.
