COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Poor old misunderstood brown ale... This is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, yet it is often frowned upon, but why? Is it because the word BROWN doesnt cling right, perhaps it leads the mind towards less appetizing things? Is it because the colour BROWN is less snazzy than, say golden?? Or is it because the duopoly of NZ brewing have driven the BROWN style into oblivion by claiming the style for their most unattractive products??? Well let you think about that while you sip this beer, either in the sun on the beach or in front of the barbie, with your afternoon steak and cheese pie, with your Sunday roast or just by itself because you are thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are this is unlike any Brown Ale you have ever tasted, it is malty, hoppy and flavourful. Some might say it is Brown Ale re-defined, wed say its REWIRED. Cheers!

Draught at Mikkeller Bar, Viktoriagade
Dark mahogany color, hazy, with small creamy head. The aroma of roasted malt is a bit dusty. Good body strength; roasted malt flavor, ashes, dark chocolate, dust; strong bitterness, with a lot of hop resins; too bitter and ashy in the end.
The roasted/burnt malt character is too evident.

Bottle at CPK with Scopey, Mes and MadMitch. Clear, light brown-gold pour with a filmy head. Classic brown ale nose, lightly roasty and very malty. Alright flavor, light to medium in sweetness, with notes of faint roast and mild cocoa. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with light brown sugar, some cocoa malts, a bit of dryness. Some hops come through nicely in the finish as well. Good beer.

Koelschtrinker (18349) - Kln (Cologne), GERMANY - JUN 3, 2011
Trockener Abgang. 11/11/11/12/11/11

Bottle. Its a clear, reddish dark brown beer with a small, off-white to light beige head. Roasted, chocolatey aroma with some notes of hops. A good dash of coffee thrown in for good measure. Some chocolate and coffee in the mostly roasted flavor, where I also sense a dash of licorice, oddly enough. Smooth and nicely carbonated. Full body. Lighlty roasted and bitter finish. Certainly a nice brown ale. 110908
