Saisons have been around for ages. Traditionally brewed by Belgian and French farmers to provide refreshment during harvest. I’m guessing that flavour wasn’t a main concern back then; the priority was to provide a beverage that was safe to drink, because water usually wasn’t. Never the less, over time they developed a beverage chrarissed by beer geeks of the modern world. The alcohol content was low, so the workers could consume enough to keep hydrated and still perform their job: To load the barn with enough barley for next years brewing season. I bet these hardworking, humble farmers never imagined, that centuries later, their style of brewing would inspire brewers from all over the world. As all our beers, this is a very modern, you might say new world, interpretation of this style. Based on the tradition we have used a French Saison yeast, which provides a plethora of funky, earthy, very "Belgian" flavours. From there we have upped the ante a fair bit by doubling the amount of malt, and thereby the alcohol, and loaded the kettle with punchy Nelson Sauvin hops. Unlike the original, this is not a beer meant to be drunk by the gallon. Moderation is the key for full enjoyment of all great beers.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2017 Taster at Mikkeller Seoul. Very pale, even for a saison, and the sauvin hops dominate the aroma. The flavour is grassy and sweet, just like sauvin hops, but there’s a good background of funkiness too. This is a really well thought out beer.

brewtalita (345) - Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC - JUL 19, 2016
Pale yellow, lingering head. Aroma vinegar, cork and oak chips, lime juice. Palate medium, low carbonation. Taste passion fruit, pineapple, chardonnay-like sour finish. Sweet and fruity, rich finish. Very nice actually.

Bottle at a tasting. Flavourful, juicy. High hoppiness marries well with the spicy saisony character. Winey, berries, light dried fruits, assertive saisony spices. Great beer, easy drinking. Does not feel thin despite being very well attenuated.

Yellow orange color with foam ring. Very shy yeasty nose. Spicy, peppery taste with a foamy carbonation. With a nice decent bitter hops in the follow up and a dryish light yeasty aftertaste.

Ritzn (1808) - GERMANY - JUN 29, 2016
Hazy yellow (a hint of green) with almost no head. Aroma is intense, fresh light fruits, toast, bubble gum. Taste is more of the same mostly sour. Average finish of more of the same stuff, sour. Much carbonation. Not bad.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2016 (bottle) hazy golden colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of herbal hops and yeast, heavily sweaty, with a touch of cherry stones and bubble gum. flavour is mostly nettles and yeast, rather metallic and astringent, with a meaty, semi-bitter finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with lively carbonation.

Towey1989 (3270) - Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, ENGLAND - MAY 31, 2016
Bottle from Bottlecraft, Hanley. Pours a slightly hazy pale golden colour with a thick, foamy head. Aroma of lemon, grape, slight peach, some pepper, a little yeast and subtle marshmallow. Taste of lemon, peach, grape, some pepper, slight yeast, a hint of wood and subtle grassy hops. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation. A dry, peppery, citrus hop bitterness in the finish. A lovely, traditional saison styled beer with a lot of peppery, yeasty quality. Nice citrus coming from the Nelson hops and a dry, refreshing finish. An all round great beer.

DeanF (2527) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 21, 2016
Poured chilled, it’s got a huge massive foamy head with staying power and heavily carbernated golden body, some fog, perfect in every sense in my humble opinion. Nice aroma of lemon rinds, hops, sour cocktails. Flavour is simplistic lemon and malt, good grain flavours. Nice meatiness on the mouth. A great drink to down by the gallon.
