Saisons have been around for ages. Traditionally brewed by Belgian and French farmers to provide refreshment during harvest. Im guessing that flavour wasnt a main concern back then; the priority was to provide a beverage that was safe to drink, because water usually wasnt. Never the less, over time they developed a beverage chrarissed by beer geeks of the modern world. The alcohol content was low, so the workers could consume enough to keep hydrated and still perform their job: To load the barn with enough barley for next years brewing season. I bet these hardworking, humble farmers never imagined, that centuries later, their style of brewing would inspire brewers from all over the world. As all our beers, this is a very modern, you might say new world, interpretation of this style. Based on the tradition we have used a French Saison yeast, which provides a plethora of funky, earthy, very "Belgian" flavours. From there we have upped the ante a fair bit by doubling the amount of malt, and thereby the alcohol, and loaded the kettle with punchy Nelson Sauvin hops. Unlike the original, this is not a beer meant to be drunk by the gallon. Moderation is the key for full enjoyment of all great beers.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2012 Great NZ saison, probably the best Ive tasted. Love the balance and the fact the ETOH is not overpowering. Best as a summer beverage, sitting out in the sun.

Tap at Craft Beer Rising (London, 19 February 2015) Clean straw yellow with sparse clean white foam. Extremely strong aromas of pineapple and mango. The most tropical nose Ive ever smelled. The palate is completely dry but shows extremely juicy & refreshing guava, mango and passion fruit (I feel as if Im practically on the beach as I drink this). Medium bodied and lightly carbonated with a light tartness. Extremely fruit forward and a perfect dry beach beer. I could drink this by the gallon.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2013 Bottle 500ml from King&Godfree and Cookie. Great yeasty and earthly beer. Aromas of dough, caramel, grain, vanilla, and perfume. Taste is sweet, with sour and bitter notes, and long length. Palate is creamy, carbonated, and full bodied. Amber, with a big frothy head.

Pours a cloudy yellow with nice white head and beautiful lasting lace. The smell to me is a lemony grapefruit blend at first then accompanied by saison style earthy yeast undertones. The flavour is a nice mouthful of zesty lemon and grapefruit finishing with a mix of yeast and pepper on the tongue. Great saison.

Bottle from Kris Wines, London. Strong yeasty, estery, grape, gooseberry, tropical aroma. Taste is a massive grape punch, lots of fruity esters, tropical tastes dominate, really fruity. Finish is spicy and not too bitter. Brilliant.

Light hazy, light brown beer with a firm white head. Looks promising! Lots of grapefruit, grapes, passion fruit, mango and raspberry bitterness. And this fruit cocktail is complemented with barnyard smells and wheat. The taste, then, does exactly what I hoped; lots of flavour, quite balanced but a clear hop character. Damn nice, although I agree its not necessarily a classic saison. But with this much flavour and unique twist, you wont hear me complain. Well, except that its extremely sparsely imported and therefore very expensive. (50cl bottle, 9,60 EUR)
