The beer you hold in your hands is the result of years of practise and refinement. I have brewed it every year since I started homebrewing, and it was one of the first beers I ever brewed. In fact before the mere thought of 8 Wired was conceived. I always knew that one day I would brew this beer commercially. Every year the Sultan has been different, but it is always Belgian inspired, of course with a large dose of sultanas. This bottle contains the fifth version of the Sultan. I finally decided to base it on a Belgian style Quadrupel. The sultanas are more present than before, and it is brewed with a hefty dose of pilsner malt, Belgian specialty malts, dark candy sugar and a funky yeast strain. Experience and enjoy it now, or mature it for years to come. I cant personally guarantee it, but I bet that it will get better with time. Soren Eriksen Brewer

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy dark amber with a creamy tan head. Lots of dark fruit in the aroma. And kandi. Flavor is very raisin/dark fruit with some yeast/spice and remnants of kandi. Theres a very slight suggestion of chocolate. Its more than mildly bitter, and Id say fairly dry. Glad to have tried this.

Bottle. Poured a clear reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy malt, candy sugar, yeast and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth sticky texture and lively carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex brew.

500ml bottle. Pours with a hazy chestnut to bronze hued body with a large off-white head. Good lace with some legs and fine retention. Very alcoholic on the nose, dark fruits, prunes, plums, some banana esters, brown sugar, very sweet, malty, bready, brown sugar, currants, lightly tart. Flavors of orange curacao, tart, cranberries, sweet, brown sugar. VERY messy. Vinous, metallic, earthy, raisins. Bad to be honest. Leather, dried fruit. Undrinkable. Light bubbles.

The beer pours a translucent mahogany color with a fairly small, beige, frothy head which is mostly diminishing and minimal, frothy lace. The nose is rich and fruity with lots of fruit cake notes, dried apricots, chocolate syrup, brown sugar, spicy alcohol wisps, spice cake, and some dates. The flavor is similar with lots of fruit and spice; spice cake, spicy warmth, dried apricots, light orange peel, chocolate syrup, light molasses, and a faint roast on the back end. The palate is more than medium, nearly lively, velvety, warm, but slightly watery. The finish is long, warming, slightly roasty, slightly herbal, and still dried apricot. Very good quad but just lacks some depth and palate depth. Still an interesting beer and looking forward to more 8 wired beers.

larsga (7444) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 18, 2011
Medium pale brown head. Clear brown body with carbonation. Syrupy papery aroma with fruity notes. Surprisingly mellow aroma. Sweet-dryish fruity papery taste with grape notes. Fullish body. Hot, but otherwise smooth and mild, mouthfeel. Dryish fruity alcoholic aftertaste with papery dandelion notes. Weird, and consistently papery. Not their best. (0.5l bottle, from Kihoskh, Copenhagen.)
