COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
100% brettanomyces fermented beer. What happens if you ferment a black punchy IPA with a strain of yeast that, until very recently, has been considered a horrible spoilage organism by almost every single brewer in the world? Beer magic is what happens, in our own humble opinion. This particular strain elevates the fruitiness of the hops, leaves a dry and refreshing mouth feel and just a touch of funk. Brettanomyces is no longer the bad guy, not in our brewery at least. 100% brettanomyces ferments are here to stay and show of all the funky tricks in the book.

Aroma is citrus, fruit, mild German hefe/bananas and strong sugar overtones. The flavor is tropical fruit, citrus, a good amount of sugar, dark malts and a mix of bitter/alcohol and tart/sour/slightly acidic in the finish.

16.9 oz. bottle. Black pour with a tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma was sweet fruit, candy, some funk, clove. Taste was mild bitter, light citrus, spicy.

Aroma:
Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, pine, roasted malts, hops, citrus and brettanomyces.

Appearance:
Turbid/opaque ruby/black beer with a medium/large beige head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium sweet with malts, caramel and pine; ends slightly bitter, dry and sour with roasted malts, hops, citrus and brettanomyces.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. The brettanomyces starts way too overpowered, but lay down with time. The other flavours are still rather slight however and the beer feels too balanced really. Unique, and that is clearly its biggest feat, and good beer overall.

500ml bottle. Pours jet black with a frothy tan head. Aroma: really funky... citrus, some roasted malt. Taste: funky citrussy hoppy flavours, roasted malt, bitter. Smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation, medium body. Hmm... love the idea of this but I guess I just don’t get why this funkiness is a desired trait. Honestly I find it offputting in what is otherwise a fantastic beer, the Bretta really lets it down (in the aroma at least), but the taste isn’t as affected, but yeah... bit too much funk.

Intense brett, floral hops, citrus fruits. Black, medium, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. Dark, toasted malts, earthy, more brett, sweet bitter orange, light lemon, soft carbonation, full bodied, bitter, dry and lightly sour. Very nice Black IPA, the brett works quite well I think. Bottle from HonestBrew, Crystal Palace.

500ml bottle. Pours a reddish tinged dark black-brown colour, with a big foamy beige head leaving lacing and aroma of barnyard funk & fruity zesty citrus. Taste is dark malt, notes of coffee, roast, with some funk, fruity citric wet hop and earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roast bitter finish with zesty hints. Interesting mix, nicely drinkable

Very dark black beer with red highlights and a frothy head. Smell is creamy and smooth. Citrus and light resin mixed with nuts and cheese. Peel... and rather unpleasant funk! Puke, medicinal. Rotten wood and leather. Taste is bitter and watery. And overwhelmed by the nasty funkiness. Terribly unbalanced, probably a bit of an old bottle and the brettanomyces has gone over the top. Pity cause its quite promising.

500ml bottle from the Malt Shoppe in Tosa, no bottle date. Black pour with a beiger-than-cafe-au-lait head, nice spongey lacing with a nitro look in the snifter. Aroma has black malts and funk, with caramel and possibly some citrus. Taste is of that mix with any hops 3rd, and some sweetness underneath from the malts. Interesting to have the salty tangy thick malts contrasted to the fruity, tart, funky brett. Medium bodied with little alcohol presence. The blend is solid and the carbonation is soft. Finishes tangy bittersweet and funky. Well balanced between the three. This is a very interesting combination, however not stupendous 13.8

500ml bottle. Darkest brwon colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, mostly lasting, well lacing, beige head. Intense, bretty, funky aroma, dark malty background, citrusy hoppy overtones, hints of chocolate, some orange. Taste is dry, funky, roasty dark malty, notes of dark chocolate, subtle residual sweetness, hints of orange; soft palate, gentle carbonation. Very good.

July 2016 - Bottle share at Craft Beer Co Islington as ’8 Wired Wireless Black IPA’, picked up in Richmond. Also thanks to Colin. Opaque black with a red hue, huge foamy dense brown head, light lacing. Aroma is bretty citrus, minty, pine, earth, a little floral. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Brett is instantly recognisable bringing a dry citrussy vibe, passionfruit, dusty, pebbles. Floral and piney stuff from the hops. Dry bretty finish. Overall, pretty good.
