The head is stable, the body black. It smells sweet, sour-roasty. The taste is a bit sour, black-roasty, sweet, intensive maltaromatic, interesting and balanced. UPDATED: MAR 31, 2013 Had this on carbonated draught in Porterhouse Cork, and it was so much better that in demanded re-rate. Pours an even darker brown, almost black with a foamy tan head that lasts with great lacing. Aroma really comes to life with the carbo draught - coffee, toffee, molasses, dark chocolate with that little hint of whiskey shine through. Taste is initial chocolate/cocoa sweetness with a nice coffee bitterness coming in after and a lovely bit of warmth from the whiskey. Much fuller bodied when carbonated with a nice soft carbonation on the mouthfeel. Lingering whiskey overtones with a nice bit of sweetness on the finish. Prior to my previous statement, when treated properly, this is a superb beer, actually a good deal superior to the Fran Well Jameson Stout, I would say.

Draught at the Bierhaus. Pours a deep brown, with a (too) thick nitro long-lasting cream/tan head. Lovely aroma of strong coffee, dark chocolate and grapes (almost red wine like). Taste is initially a decent medium sweetness followed by a smokey bacon saltiness and a nice light and lingering bitterness on the finish. Unfortunately, it lacks a bit of body, with a slightly watery mouthfeel considering it’s (at least) 7%. Nice smoked fruity aftertaste though. Overall, a good beer, but one I’ll have to try again. Not quite as smooth as the only previously whiskey-aged stout I’ve had (Jameson from Fran Well), and lacks a bit of bite, but a good effort. ciaranc (1102) - Dublin, IRELAND - MAY 13, 2013
Deep mahogany brown, wonderful off white head. Irish whiskey, not overdone, backed by roast malt. Fantastic flavour, dominated by that wood, whiskey essence. Finish is long, malt and alcohol warming.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2013 Okay, comparison time. Last score was 3.8 on cask (I’ll only adjust upwards if appropriate) appearance: again, jet black, small but persistent tanned head. Aroma: creamy, smoky, a little sour, some pepper, whiskey, new leather. Flavour: lovely silky smooth mouthfeel, light mocha, cream, leather, chocolate, smoke and vanilla, malty & tobacco finish. Quite lovely. Bumped to 4. Lovely.
On tap at the Irish Craft Village. Appearance: Jet black, mocha coloured head. Aroma: Slightly sour, a little chocolate with coffee and leather, some very slight barrel and whiskey notes detected. Flavour: Ah, okay, now I can taste the barrel aging! Wood, coffee, dark chocolate with again leather, vanilla, malty too with smoke and a long bitter coffee finish. Quite nice. On tap at the Irish Beer Village, Dublin (in a plastic cup unfortunately!). Black pour with thin bubbly tan head. Aroma has plenty of milk chocolate, lightly roasted notes, dark fruit, and lovely subtle fruity whiskey tones.Taste showcases plenty of chocolate and lightly roasted notes, will some vanilla from the barrel and fruity, floral whiskey flavours which linger on the palate. Medium mouthfeel. Very drinkable. This was excellent, looking forward to trying it in proper glassware, at a higher temperature, and not standing in a tent in the pissing rain. pours dark ruby mahogany, vanilla yoghurt nose. Initial fluffy head and collapsed quickly. Slight bonfire aroma. Very full bodied but low carbonation, sweet red berries, dry tobacco, apple skins, milky coffee and a building dry finish. Doesn’t seem its strength but a touch more carbonation could set it alight. As it stands a fairly tasty stout that I’d try again.
Jet black pour with a good tan lid. Roasted malt, cocoa, peat, whiskey, espresso. Bitter, fruity sweetness, alcohol warmth and medium soft carbonation.
