COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Belgian IPA.

341ml bottle shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Slightly hazy orange-amber with a smallish off-white frothy head. Aroma - Belgian lush somewhat sweet yeast, fruity malt, nice pungent, slightly dry grassy bitterness - a nice mellow melange. Taste has less grass and more light golden Belgian fruity/candi malt with some alcohol - also nicely balanced, but definitely sweet. Average body, a bit syrupy, solid carbonation, a quick fruit-sweet malty finish, a light dry grassy aftertaste. Very pleasant, very drinkable.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2013 Bouteille 341 ml. 7.1%. Couleur jaune or, claire, mousse blanche épaisse.

Pours crystal clear light orange little head and no lacing. Nose is yeast and candy. Aromas of yeast, fruit, candy and some bread. Very light hop bitterness in the finish. Tastes are heavy medium sweet and light bitterness. Light body. Just ok.

As Cuvée Houblonnee II. A hazed amber ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light honey notes, grassy resinous hops, light oxidation. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with light candy sugar, light curacao, coriander, light grassy resinous hops, light oxidation but overall, still pleasant.

Pours a fair size of foamy white head and leaves a thin coat. Has a pretty clear golden appearance. Aromas of floral hops and grainy, bread malts and not much else. Flavours of mild citrus hops, mostly spices and resin hops, sweet malts, a slight hint of bananas and caramel. Fairly sweet. Somewhat excessive carbonation. Mouthfeel has a puckering, mouth-tingling sensation. Some bitterness on the palate. Also gives off a warming sensation. Not too bad, but would love to try on tap some day.

The third in a series of IPAs from A La Fut. This one is made with Belgian yeast and the hop variety is not specified. It is also a bit stronger than the other two IPAs in the series at 7.2%. This is the weakest of the three beers in my opinion and was a bit disappointing not because it is a poor beer but because it is not at the level of the previous two IPAs. There is an initial bitterness in the taste but it is quickly replaced by a heavy malt flavour reminiscent of a Belgian strong ale. That more or less kills the IPA effect, it is like an initial rush of IPA followed by a fairly bland Belgian strong ale. The two styles don’t really mesh. The hop bitterness kills the subtle flavours of a good Belgian strong ale while the strong yeast and alcoholic heaviness kill the crisp IPA bitterness. That being said it is pleasant tasting and "easy drinking" but that is not really what I want in an IPA, Belgian strong ale or a combination of the two.

Bouteille 341ml.
