light hops, more grassy, and hay than anyuthing else. faint cooked vegetables, and some light malts. Flavor was watery and uninspiring. Meh.

On tap. Dark, bronze pour with white head. Resinous piney aroma with sticky caramel notes. Pretty tasty, quite bitter lots of resinous hops with a bit of residual sweetness, earthy finish. Good IPA taste and bitterness but it is a bit messy. Good creamy palate, finishes dry.

In short: A nourishing citrusy and resinous IPA. Good beer.
How: Tap at Montreal Mondial de la Bière 2010
The look: Cloudy dark orange topped by a persistent small beige head
In long: Nose citrusy hops with oranges and pine-needles. A nice malt backbone with tasty rich caramel well balanced by resinous and citrusy hops with a bit of pine needles. Also an orange peels and dry wood sensation. The bitterness is in the medium range. This is a very competent IPA. Its rich caramelized malt backbone makes it more nourishing than refreshing. I was hoping for a more assertive bitterness from a beer called “Palette Destroyer”. And I also expected a lot more dirty S&M action from the move Slave Of Love Forever, a romantic comedy!?!?

Pours deep amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is a mix of citrusy and floral hops. The taste is similar; however a good amount of the malts levels out the taste with some sweetness added to the bitterness of the hops. A very well balanced beer, glad I tried this.

Draught at Vices & Versa. Pours a cloudy copper-amber with an average size diminishing creamy off-white head. Lovely hoppy aroma, lots of floral and citrus hops. Flavour’s quite hoppy and fruity -- lovely and oh so easy to drink! Average to medium bodied. A fantastic IPA.

Draught - at Vices et Versa April 23, 2010. Very cloudy reddish amber with a straw-coloured creamy head. Aroma of juicy malt with a LOT of pungent dry floral bitterness; some alcohol (simple, but appealing). The taste - a huge hit of floral bitterness, like marigolds in full bloom - dry and spicy, with noticeable alcohol - as it warms it gets even more bitter, with grapefruit skin notes coming in. Average body, solid carbonation - not stinging, quite drying on the palate with all that floral/grapefruit bitterness, the linger is quite long on this one. Very good, if one-dimensional beer - I would buy a pint of this any day of the week.

My Bottom Line:
Crunchy cereals succeed in nearly balancing out this India Pale Ale’s assertive leafy, citrusy and resinous hoppiness, creating a flavorful and quenching example of the style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the clear dark golden.
-The aroma is quite pleasant (floral, citrusy), but could be more expressive to announce the hoppiness to come (and to be as alluring as top-tier IPAs of this continent).
-The hop bitterness is gripping, but it is not overwhelming. Apparently the first batch was too intense so they toned it down somewhat. The pint I had was not aggressive at all, so great move on their part, imho.
-The Frontenac malt character is almost drowned out by the loud hops, but its fruity idiosyncracies still appear here and there. Personally, I would have preferred a softer malt to let the hops express themselves.

On tap at Brouhaha.

On tap at Vices & Versa.Appearance: cloudy brown-orange with a small white head. Aroma: mango skin, lots of sweet hops, a teeny tiny reminder of sour milk. Flavour: super hoppy, lots of fresh hops, pineapple, wonderful malt character, tangy mango skins, just a superb IPA.

(Rating #3005)
