Bottle [341ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a clear copper-gold with a large fluffy white head. Aroma of grain (a grainy Barley Wine?), that Quebec yeast, some smoke, fruit and some sugary sweetness. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, light smoke, some spice and dark fruit. Average bodied. Disappointing but ultimately and O.K. beer.

Boutip (6374) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 16, 2010
Bottle: Poured a medium amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with very thin notes of salt. Taste is not as complex as I had hoped with some caramel malt and not much help. The smoke notes that was supposed to be present is very hard to distinguish and the salty notes are also very hard to find. Body is about average with good carbonation with no alcohol appearance. Not bad but not worth the price tag.

Bottle... Beautiful, clear amber ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Great retention. The nose is an intoxicating blend of smoked bacon and sweet, buttery toffee. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and biting carbonation. Sweet, smoky flavor with a brown sugar finish. What a treat… an English-style smoked barleywine. Thanks to MartinT for providing the bottle!

Bouteille 341ml.

Moderate cream-coloured head on dark amber. Spicy moderate syrup aroma .Body is not at all syrupy. Kind of dry, nice sipper. Friendly spice and a bit of heather.

Eructoblaster (4205) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 23, 2009
Bottle - 341ml. Pours a slightly hazy amber body with a fair off-white foamy/creamy head. Very enjoyable malty/hoppy aroma with brown sugar, fruity, and oaky hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Texture is soft and taste is well balanced. It carries woody, fruity, and subtle smokey notes. Good, warming bittersweet finish. Another very good one from "les Îles".

JulienHuxley (5807) - Sherbrooke, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 23, 2009
Bottle. Smokey, salty aromas some celery salt too. Pretty sweet taste a little smoke and very well hidden alcohol. Pretty good.

Aroma:a lot of smoke aroma,light caramel...... Appearance:redish amber,light head... Flavor:smoke flavor,light bitterness....To much smoke for a barley wine....

Medium, fine yellowish head over clear foxy-amber beer. Alcohol & very lightly phenolic-smoked; bit of caramel underneath. Phenolic, smoked, leathery taste, gradually building up. Important amount of restsugars, caramel. Retronasal flavours of sweetish young vegetables. No herring. Much more carbonated MF than the visual suggests; slick, not overly full-bodied. Nicely smoked; less aggressive than the Bamberg ones, but more carbolic/phenolic.

HogTownHarry (6872) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - DEC 10, 2009
Bottle ( 341ml ). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, via trade with JulienHuxley. Clear bright pale amber-gold, smallish frothy/creamy beige head. Smell - damn, that Quebec yeast - dry, sharp, sour - masks the booziness a bit; sweet and floral in behind that - ehhh. Taste - again, boozy, somewhat sour, spicy and harsh .... watery, slick, decently carbonated, but it leaves a weird pungent, sweaty aftertaste - frankly only the old version of the corne de brume is worth the bother from these guys.
