COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

Bottle @ home. Delayed gusher (my least favorite kind!). The pour’s deep brown with a medium off-white head that slowly settles. The nose is big orange liqueur, chocolate sauce, plenty of fruity esters, spice cabinet, plenty of belgian yeast funkiness. Bruised red fruits. The taste is spiced christmas cake, more orange peel and red berry. Some roasted nut, rich caramel, plenty of chocolate malt. Long, slightly hot finish. The body’s smooth and rich. The ABV’s hidden very well. Overall, a pretty excellent Belgian Strong Ale. Worth checking out.

16/20 tastes amazing, easily one of the best Belgium beers I've had. Only negative was the huge amount of floaters in the beer which was a bit off putting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

s a rich mahogany from a bottle, creamy off-white head made of incredibly small bubbles. Aroma is of sweet sherry soaked wood, flavor is a rich malty syrup, again some sherry, some newly split green hardwood, a hint of molasses. Good beer.

[email protected], Copenhagen (01/07/2017) - dark amber reddish pour with off-white head. Aroma and taste is sweet malty with notes of caramel, treacle, brown sugar, some dark dried fruit shred, yeasty, nice spices into the close. Lovely.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dark copper with a yellowish beige, quickly disappearing head. The aroma is very lightly yeasty (dough), bready, beeswax,, some faint herbal hop notes and also settled notes of fermented pears. Full body with a low carbonation, a medium sweetness and a light bitterness. The alcohol is very well integrated. The taste is very malty, caramel, honey, brown sugar, meaty, hints of overripe fruits, but the sweetness is perfectly balanced by a nice hop presence (again with a somewhat generic herbal hop bitterness, bitters). Finishes with a light pleasant alcoholic warming. Overall complex and very smooth to drink - a really good beer.

BBE 03/06/2018. Tuuhean ruskea väri, semiok viipyvä vaahto. Tuoksu täyteläisen huumaava, makea, suloinen... Suutuntuma alkoholisen lämmittävä, maukas, mieto, ruskea, hivenen raa’an tuntuinen mutta silti pärisee kyllä.

Originally rated on 12/24/08. Aromas of dark fruit such as cherries, plum, fig, also yeast, caramel, and hints of bread. Appearance was a deep rootbeer brown body with loads of huge yeast flakes. The head started out large and slowly went down leaving decent lace behind. Flavors were similar to the aromas with the fruits and sweet yeasty breadiness all intermingling. Alcohol was well hidden for 9%. Overall a pretty good beer thats worth a try.
