Abbaye des Rocs (9% alcohol vol.) is a pure malt beer, with no added sugar. The entire range of tastes is directly linked to the double fermentation, the precise quantities of malts (7 types) as well as the mixtures of three kinds of hops (Belgian, German and Czech). Its colour is a striking deep and majestic red. Its taste is rich and full of subtlety. It is tasted like a red wine with which it shares the ruby colour without having the tannin. It develops a strong sweet smell. It confirms the initial impression in the first mouthful, with a sharp body that is balanced with a certain fruitiness. It frees itself on the palate and develops an impressive depth of taste. Some traces of burnt wood are detectable, but never scorched even if it contains this kind of malt. The foretaste is very prolonged because of its rich and unctuous development throughout the mouth. The bitter and sugar tendencies (even though there is no sugar in its composition) compete and come back together to the taster's great satisfaction. It is a deep, mystic and extremely mature beer to be classed among the great products of our soil.

The appearance is a brownish brick red with floating yeasty sediments. The aroma is rich of caramel and cherry with hints of pear and dough. The flavor is very bold with cherry, citrus, and dark chocolate tones with a subtle coffee finish. It has a full mouth feel with soft carbonation.

Deep copper color. Nice sweetness to the beer considering no sugars added. Dates and figs, medium bodied, dry finish.

Sunday, August 6, 2017. Bottle 330 ml. Bought at Belgium in a Box in Antwerpen. Served in Trappist glass. I am very impressed by this beer. The taste is very fruity and complex. Reminds me a lot of Rochefort Trappistes 8 and 10.

Small bottle from Denman Liquor Store in Vancouver. A cloudy amber orange beer with very generous yellow head intense fruity nose. Sweet, mellow, smooth with intense complex fruit notes. No bitterness detected. Wow! 4.2

Vynikající chuť s tóny oříšků, nasládlé karamelové aroma a krémová jemná pěna.

16/20 tastes amazing, easily one of the best Belgium beers I've had. Only negative was the huge amount of floaters in the beer which was a bit off putting ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

s a rich mahogany from a bottle, creamy off-white head made of incredibly small bubbles. Aroma is of sweet sherry soaked wood, flavor is a rich malty syrup, again some sherry, some newly split green hardwood, a hint of molasses. Good beer.

Bottle from tavour. Little to no carbination. Tastes of vinagar, sherry and brown sugar. A little muted but enjoyable.
