Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru has a rich, complex fruit aroma of cherries, golden raisins, peaches, and assorted dried fruit, laced with honey and caramel. Smooth, rich flavors reminiscent of cherries dipped in caramel, finishing with notes of dried chocolate, roasted almonds, and a hint of molasses.

Caramel, dark malt, bready, and a hint of alcohol interesting and complex aroma. Very dark, almost black, ruby red when held up to the light. Beaitiful looking which a long lasting and thick brown head. Flavor matches up quite well with the smell, rich caramel, brown sugar and yeasty notes. Nothing smacks you over the head here, all the flavors are very subtle and integrated. Quite unique for it’s style. Medium/thin bodied but lively carbonation.

Magnum 1'5l. Tres años despues de fecha de consumo. Una gozada. El único pero la levadura coagulada que impidió beber la botella entera sin residuo. Fina. Redonda. Limpia de matices extraños. Genial!

Tap. Pours light hazy reddish brown with a medium offwhite head. Aromas of dark fruits, bananas, toffee, bready malts, caramel. Taste has caramel, bready malts, light bitterness, dark fruits, light estery fruity notes, some acidity.

W aromacie rodzynki, ciemne owoce, drożdże. W smaku lekko słodki i ogólnie dobrze zachowany balans w smaku w tym stylu. Nie jest zły, ale dupy nie urywa.

Pours reddish brown with a cappuccino head. Aroma is flat, just some tiny traces of yeast and dark fruits, which is quite unexpected. Taste is sweet but controlled, with a sort of winery dryness but no traces of alcohol. Very thin and watery body. Not bad, but it lacks something. An unlucky bottle?

Owocowe, słodkie pełne z fajnymi pismakami kandyzowanych owoców. Gushing i sporo farfocli.

Aroma of oak, caramel, cherries, raisins, and currants. Taste of cherries, oak, nuts, molasses.

Backlog. Raisins, dried apricot, caramel, prune. Medium sweet, could be less carbonated (like most of BSAs)

Barwa brazowa, lekko czerwonawa. W aromacie czuc wyraznie rodzynki i lekko porzeczke. W samym pubie pilem dwa lepsze quady.

Very good beer. I bought a sample bottle, and when I got it good and cold, I saw what appeared to be a crust at the top of the inside of the bottle. It appears to be either brown sugar, or chocolate-- but either way, it did not get in the way of taste.

DraftDodger (1664) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 20, 2017
Copenhagen 20/5 2017. 75 cl bottle from "Den Gamle Købmand". They call it a "Belgian Special Brown ale" on the label. Pours hazy red tinged brown with off white head. Disappears fairly fast leaving thin rim of foam along the side of the glass. No lacing. Aroma is intense and rich. Sweet dark fermented fruit meets hard edged alcohol. Sweet honey, black berry alcohol and sugary notes. Medium carbonation and medium thick palate. Flavor is heavy sweet followed by spicy and burnt bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and alcoholic. A heavy hard hitting Dark Belgian orgy of fruit and alcohol. Almost a Barley Wine.
