Abita Andygator, a creature of the swamp, is a unique, high-gravity brew made with pale malt, German lager yeast, and German Perle hops. Unlike other high-gravity brews, Andygator is fermented to a dry finish with a slightly sweet flavor and subtle fruit aroma. Reaching an alcohol strength of 8% by volume, it is a Helles Doppelbock.

Pours a nice golden color with a nice white head that fades quickly. Aroma is a nice citrus hop. Taste is not as hoppy as it smells and has a finish that lingers with you but not in a bad way ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Youre got to give to Abita for embracing their Florida roots. About every other Bock-type beer in the world has a goat on it. Abita is going to put an alligator on it, goddamnit! Andygator generally looks and smells like your average Doppelbock, although its not as dark as most. Pale orange color. Mildly hoppy aroma and sweet grains. I never really took to the flavor. Theres some mildly fruity notes and a strange vanilla/honey sweetness that seems somewhat out-of-place. I didnt take to this, but its worth trying if you like Abita.

Not too exciting, a little plain, but not bad at all. Excellent for the price though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Opaque amber. Unfiltered. Notes of malt, yeast, wheat, licorice and clove. Sticky alcohol with heavy clove and German yeast. Dry, quick finish. Not bad.

355ml bottle. Clear, orangey golden colour with small, frothy to creamy half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Sweet-ish, malty aroma, hints of honey, carrot, a touch of lemon. Taste is slightly sweet malty, unspecific fruity, notes of carrot, honey, dry hints of starch. Controlled sweetness, rather expressionless overall.

Im kinda surprised by the low scores here, but not really. This is a nice hellerbock. Good malty sweetness, full and balanced, nice toffee flavors, with a light hop spicing beneath. Mildly warming.

At a tasting, thanks, smallish creamy head, cloudy deep orange color with yellowish hues, malty, nutty, vanila aroma, sweet malty and alcoholic. Not too exciting.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Tom Ls place. Thanks Stas. Clear golden. Aroma of malt, honey, caramel, a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor, honey-ish, caramelly, alcoholic. Too sweet and boozy.

355ml bottle as a gift from Louisiana:
Quite a disappointing offering overall, the beer seemed quite ordinary & definitely wasnt what I was expecting, especially given it was the last of the American import beers I had to try from over the summer. There wasnt too much variety to the beer either, beyond the sweetness some pale malts & typical lager type flavours featured alongside an earthy middle & some toasted touches nearer the end; I cant say this is one Im likely to have again Im afraid.
